We call those people EGR--Extra Grace Required!  I try to remember His grace is sufficient!

Thanks Sue for this great word. It is easy for us to let people steal our joy from time to time. However, I think the key word here, as you stated in your blog, is let. This implies that we have a choice. We can either focus on the problem person or on Jesus who is the solution. Thanks for the reminder!

Thank you so much, Sue!  I was struggling today with someone "rubbing me the wrong way", and it ain't the first time--within my church.  And I tried to shrug it off as it bugged me through the service. She had hit a spot I am very insecure about as is.  Well, God kept reminding me that we DO NOT wrestle against flesh and blood, and to put the blame where it laid; with the devil.  It is hard, and I have to keep asking God to help me to keep that in mind, and not let this person keep getting to me.  We need thicker skin through the Holy Spirit.  This was timely, my friend.  Very timely indeed.

Let us all pray to God that we are not the ones that are raining on the parade of others. I know that I have been guilty of it.

Amen Sue, "Jesus has given us every reason to be filled with the joy of the Lord." In a way, that is part of what I was getting at a couple days ago. If anyone other than the Holy Spirit is controlling me, I won't get the best for me, which is what God has in store. That's not quite the same as joy stealers, external thiefs, but similar in that as long as the H.S. is controlling me, including my brain (yes I have one!), the joy shall remain!

I needed to see this post today - thank you!  This line was the Lord speaking to me for sure:

Forgiveness is a one way street.  Forgiveness doesn't always mean that reconciliation will follow.

I had a falling out with my family a few years back, and I need to realize that my forgiving them of past wrongs doesn't mean that we're A-OK now, but that my forgiveness takes it off my heart...and that I can still pray for reconcilliation.

I have met many people like this, my father being one of them.  Some people, like family, you really can't avoid, but you can ask God to give you the strength and the patience that is needed to deal with them.  Great post!

Praise the Lord...
I really enjoyed the blog on "Don't Let em Steal Your Joy"
It was just a confirmation on what I've been talking about in the past few weeks.

Sue,
Very good blog....  and I too like what you said, Forgiveness is a one way street.  Forgiveness doesn't always mean that reconciliation will follow
When we hold on to unforgiveness, we actually participate in the development of very pain that was inflected upon us from another....  let it go.... remember... "the joy of the Lord is our strength."

Thanks everyone!  The funny thing was right after I typed this up, I got "zapped" the very next day :(  So I had to leave it in draft mode for a few weeks :)  But one of my favorite comments to receive is, "This is timely."  So praise God for His perfect timing in posting!

I heard it in a different way, Sue but essential it is the same.

No one can take your joy away unless you LET them.

Sue, thanks for such a good reminder.   I continue to struggle with this from time to time.  I have used that same phrase.  I have allowed things and people to steal my joy.  For what??  Sometimes the people that have offended me didn't even mean to.  I know you talked about those that rub us the wrong way in a malicious way.  But most of my issues of "stolen joy" have to do with misinterpretation of someone's motiviation.  What I mean is they did not mean any harm and are suprised I took something they said or did in that way.

Thanks for writing this!   Your brother in Christ, Brent

Thank You, Sue!  This the reason why I wrote GOD Is First, because I am not going to let old garbage from family, whoever get in the way of my walk with the LORD.  I love and forgive them but greet them at a long distance.

Funny...  I said to one of my family member the other day, but it was...

"Don't rain on my parade, buddy!"
