| For Visitors to Louisiana First Weekend of February and Louisiana Residents, too! |
|

We have a lot of visitors (and we are happy to have you and want you to come back!) for Mardi Gras from out of state. Even though you may drive carefully, please be more aware of defensive driving during a double (Mardi Gras and Super Bowl) celebration weekend, in Louisiana! Even though you may not drink, you aren't sure about the other drivers! We pray our visitors and our Louisiana residents will be safe!
*Increased alcohol consumption on Super Bowl Sunday and the weekend leading into Mardi Gras have made the widely-celebrated events dangerous for Louisiana motorists.
The two events will coincide this year in the first weekend of February, presenting drivers and law enforcement with a unique, difficult challenge, according to a news release by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. *

You are right, Brenda! This is a serious message but we can have fun saying it! We do like visitors to Louisiana and welcome them. Just want them to be SAFE and have fun!
Even though the Super Bowl is in Arizona, there are house parties, club parties, and bar parties all over the state of Louisiana for the super bowl, as YOU know. If the Super Bowl was held in the Superdome this year, whew-wee! Can't you just imagine the people, for sure, mixed in with Mardi Gras!!!!
Yes, I'm glad Louisiana is well represented on BOTH teams in the Super Bowl! Both Kevin Faulk and Eli Manning are great players. As you say, either way we are a winner!
Now, for the Mardi Gras stuff! There are Mardi Gras Balls, parades, house parties, club parties, and nightclub parties for that! So, Louisiana is a good state, but a festival/party state. Just about every town has parades and festivities, plus throw in a regular dancing Louisiana Saturday Night! Yeah, something every day for a week or two, until day after Fat Tuesday, this year--the first Tuesday in February. NOW that's a BIGGGGG day down here!!! Thank you for your comment and star. I just wanted people to be aware of the fun but also the need to be VERY careful driving since there is a LOT of drinking during these celebrations. I know you and I don't drink, but a whole lot of people do-- so just be careful out there if you do drink and if you DON'T! Come, visit, relax, and have a great time! Be Safe!

| Thank you for being and showing your concern for others. Very good advice on driving defensively also. We are our brother's keeper and we must look out for each other when we travel. |

Thank you, Jean, for your comment. We do have to be careful driving--anytime, I suppose, but during the celebrations, some people drink that usually do not and it can really be added danger, along with the additional people that are out and about for the various activities.
I'm proud to say that some of the cities try to focus on "family" activities but there are still those who do drink and DRIVE. They wouldn't mean to hurt a flea, but could.
Thank you for taking time to read the blog and to add a comment! Be blessed!

Thank you, Restore, for your star and comment! Yeah boy, GEAUX Eli, quarterback for the GIANTS and I hope Kevin Faulk does his job with the Patriots, too!
Well, to add to the complications of all the parties, parades, and Mardi Gras/Super Bowl activities, here in Louisiana----WE HAVE HEAVY rain in the forecast, as well! God help everyone be safe period, but especially in their DRIVING!!!
Oh, I see I can no longer put color on my comment. I wonder why? Seems there was the option to colorize and bold print before. HUMMMM. And I could not add a smilie. Hummmmm!!!!! Well, seems now I can! Great!
Anyway, BE SAFE!!!

Yeah boy, Brenda! I'm proud of Eli and the Giants! Good game!
I also must take this opportunity to mention that the NEW ORLEANS HORNETS are something to watch, too!!!!!! GEAUX HORNETS! One good thing, Louisiana connected sports are really on the ball this year!
After Tuesday, the facts about the Mardi Gras season this year should be available. I did manage to find this, for now--concerning New Orleans (even though we have activities STATEWIDE. Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, is the often raucous end to the pre-Lenten Carnival season. Characterized by family-friendly parades uptown and in the suburbs - and by heavy drinking and lots of near-nudity in the French Quarter - the celebration is highlighted by 12 days of parades and parties. and The celebration appears to have bounced back strongly since Katrina flooded more than 80 percent of the city. Mardi Gras crowd estimates hovered around 1 million in the years before Katrina, and the crowd reached about 800,000 last year. I don't have the figures for this year yet. Also, on the good side, about New Orleans--Police say 1,100 officers, state troopers and National Guardsmen have been positioned along parade routes since the season began. Some officers are in plain clothes.(*various news reports) That IS good news!
I will try to leave a brief update about this year, available after FAT TUESDAY, which is TODAY, February 5. Thunderstorms are in the forecast which could play a part in final results, good or bad.
