Well, Wednesday the 23rd of January 2008 saw the setting of our 13th full moon since the “All Americans” landed in Afghanistan. The good news . . . Only two (2) more full moons to go and we should all be home.
This week also held excitement as we were able to pre-pack some of our equipment. Good thing too . . . You’d be amazed how much stuff one acquires when you’re away from home nine to fifteen months. Prior to “checking” our baggage, we had to have every single item inspected with a fine tooth comb by customs. Once everything was thoroughly inspected, they put their silver “band of approval" on our baggage and it was ready for palletization.
Everyone’s morale was soaring as each individual drug tough boxes, and bags to throw on the pallet. Of course, we’ve got some Jedi-Grand Masters when it comes to building pallets. And, God willing, our stuff will make it back to the States and be waiting for us when we arrive.

Finally, I was able to get my picture with “Safety Dave.” Everyone back at Ft. Bragg, NC knows Dave . . . He’s the safety officer for the entire post. Anyway, Dave is a retired Sergeant Major who suffered and survived a jump injury. Back when I was a young enlisted paratrooper, I heard a story about a jumper whose static line looped around and ripped his bicep from his arm as he exited the aircraft. I always thought it was an “urban legend” until one day . . . We received a new Chaplain who actually served with Dave during the incident. Yes! Dave is a legend and a great American hero who – Thanks be to God, his arm his muscle was restored, and he served honorably until he retired!

God’s richest blessings . . . And as always, thanks for praying for America’s finest – The All Americans!
