Well I have been homeschooling my two for three months now. I am loving it. Of course it is taking some getting used to by Sandra and Timmy. Being 11 and 14 (both having birthdays this month) they have seemed to think this is just fun. They sometimes say "it's not fair" that they have to work at levels a little above where they are. They are more than capable, but want everything to be non-thinking work. They complain if they have to take time to work out or think out problems and questions. They seem to have been used to doing stuff they didn't have to put much effort into. I have even gone back to simple reading compression work. Although they are at two different levels of work, neither seemed to be able to read a few pages in a text book and answer questions pertaining to what they read. That frustrated me. I am getting down the lesson plans and record keeping. Thank the Lord for that, I am not much of an organizer (at least not at home). My daughter gets involved in ideas for lesson plans and record keeping and even what stratigies might work best for her and her brother. I thank God everyday for this opportunity. I have so many chances now to talk to them about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and how our relationship with God is in every part of life. I record things off of TBN, and anywhere else I find good teaching and then we watch it together. Both of the kids ask questions, like the other day my son asked how we know when God is talking to you. He also has asked about tithing and finances. He likes to buy things (like any kid). He loves to take things apart and build things. He came down just this evening showing us how a light bulb worked when you attach it to batteries. He experimented with the number of batteries, the size of batteries, etc. I love to see that kind of curiosity in a child. I am blessed even with my two older children (18 and 16) that I haven't had the same opportunity with Thank you God for giving me the best opportunities and life I could have ever imagined. |
