| My thoughts on Psalm 23 |

23:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want; 23:2 he makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters; 23:3 he restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. 23:5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil, my cup overflows. 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. This is one of my most favorite Psalms in the Bible. It seems though that most of the funerals I have gone to that they have used this Psalm more than in any other for the Eulogy. I tend to think as the Lord telling me that He will be with me no matter what. For those that are secure in Him He will bring us out of the dark and unpleasant places in our lives "walking though the valley of death or the wilderness" into an oaisis in complete communion with Him. I am a citizen of the Kingdom of God and a stranger in this world. While I have been in the valley the Lord has been with me pruning me with His rod and staff and guiding me on a path that leads to total dependance on Him for everything I need. He is the good Shepheard and I am a sheep in the lush green pastures beside the still waters of His salvation. |
