Hey Matt, I've listened to the song a few times and here's what I think. -I liked the song (without the higher key) but I like it more three steps up. I'd be more than willing to help out if you needed me. - I actually like the tempo as is, I think any faster and it would rush the chorus making it difficult to understand. - I understand what you mean by sounding cultish on the chorus. To me, the chorus doesn't really mesh with the tone of the verses which are more about being afraid of doing whatever Jesus wants you to do. It seems to build from the end of the verses to the bridge which where it seems to me the breakthrough happens not before. Sorry that doesn't give a concreate answer to fixing the chorus but this song is very personal and a reflection of how you feel and I don't want to take away from that. - I really like the song. I don'tknow how well it would work as a worship song but could be used in other settings. It reminds me of some of the songs by Rich Mullins "Hold me Jesus "http://www.tsrocks.com/r/rich_mullins_texts/hold_me_jesus.html) and Keith Green (see 'My Eyes are Dry' http://www.delusionresistance.org/christian/keith/k07.html)which were sometimes brutally honest about the state of their hearts. Peace! |
