Matt-

First off, I saw "new song" and "on music player" and I stopped in the middle of reading your blog so that I could go listen. I love it by the way.

Some thoughts...
-As I was listening to this, I kept hearing almost a duet in my head. The first person who came to mind was Josh T. which I think would be perfect for hitting those higher notes. I love the lower notes that you sing and I think paired with a higher voice would sound awesome.
-Another thing, have you thought of picking up the tempo just a notch? Just sounds like it should be a bit faster, not much, but a bit.

Just my thoughts. I hope you can work everything out to your liking. Awesome job though. I can't wait for more of the songs God is going to pour out of you! Keep it up!

Hey Matt,

I've listened to the song a few times and here's what I think.

-I liked the song (without the higher key) but I like it more three steps up. I'd be more than willing to help out if you needed me.

- I actually like the tempo as is, I think any faster and it would rush the chorus making it difficult to understand.

 - I understand what you mean by sounding cultish on the chorus. To me, the chorus doesn't really mesh with the tone of the verses which are more about being afraid of doing whatever Jesus wants you to do. It seems to build from the end of the verses to the bridge which where it seems to me the breakthrough happens not before. Sorry that doesn't give a concreate answer to fixing the chorus but this song is very personal and a reflection of how you feel and I don't want to take away from that.

- I really like the song. I don'tknow how well it would work as a worship song but could be used in other settings. It reminds me of some of the songs by Rich Mullins "Hold me Jesus "http://www.tsrocks.com/r/rich_mullins_texts/hold_me_jesus.html) and Keith Green (see 'My Eyes are Dry' http://www.delusionresistance.org/christian/keith/k07.html)which were sometimes brutally honest about the state of their hearts.

Peace!

Dan -- thank you!  I think your comments about the chorus not meshing right helped.  I've edited the order of things to make it a bit more linear (see above).  This puts the confession of the fears at the beginning of the song, the decision to face them (formerly known as the cultish chorus) in the middle as a part of the bridge, and everything builds to the breakthrough at the end.  I think it holds together a lot better this way and reduces the cultish feel of the "anything for you" by providing better context.

I haven't yet tried to re-record because I would really like to do this in the right key.  Mathematically it seems like the lower key should be fine -- just a shift down.  But it just doesn't sound right.

Once I get a drum loop and a couple of guitar tracks down for this (which may take a while), I'd love it if you would be willing to do the vocals.  In the higher key, I'd have to use a helium balloon to reach the notes, and I think that may not sound quite right...
