Last week, I was (at the last minute) writing out a Show & Tell unit that had been on my heart for quite some time. It was about the story of King David bringing the Ark of the Covenant back to Jerusalem after it had been stolen. It's a fantastic story (one of my personal favorites), but it was quite a challenge to put it into three year old terms. Inside, I really wondered if any of the kids would actually "get it."
My sweet Mom was the teacher in that class on Sunday, and Noah (my "ALL-boy" boy) was in there as well. Noah is the youngest kid in the class, and he is not yet down with the "staying seated at the table and listening" thing. When class was over, Mom told me that while Noah had a good time and was kind to the other children, he didn't have much success with sitting still or staying focused. Since I KNOW my mom is probably one of the best S&T teachers we have (she's been working with kids this age since Clint was in kindergarten), I thought, "If he won't sit still for HER, then he just won't sit still. I should've practiced 'sit-down' activities with him more at the house." So--yep, Sunday afternoon, I went home feeling like a less-than-great mommy and a less-than-great Bible study author.
I went home, put Noah down for a nap, and hung his Show & Tell coloring sheet on the fridge.
As I was doing dishes Sunday night, the Lord gave me quite a surprise as this conversation unfolded (sorry in advance for those who have trouble translating Noah's speech--you may ask Mary Beth to translate--she's good at it):
Noah (bounding into the kitchen and pointing at the fridge): Hey, Mommy! Dat's mine! I cowered dat!
Me (scrubbing a pot): You're right, Noah! Where did you color that page?
Noah: At Grammy's cwass at chutch.
Me (pointing to a cartoon outline of the Ark of the Covenant): It's a good picture, Noah. What's that on your coloring page?
Noah: It's cart
Me: Baby, I think you mean Ark.
Noah: Yeah...Awk of Cub-in-it. Day put on cart. Not posta touch it (wagging finger and shaking head seriously)--nebber, nebber, nebber!
Me (In total shock at my son who "had not been listening" that morning): Wow! And, who's that man (pointing to a cartoon outline of Uzzah)?
Noah: Dat man...him touch it. Him died wike dis (spits in the air--is it a boy thing????, and then falls on the kitchen floor).
All that to say...praise God! I think he got it! :) God's Word never returns void--"nebber, nebber, nebber!"
