Director Franco Zeffirelli vividly captures and beautifully portrays the life of St. Francis of Assisi in this amazingly inspirational and moving film. The first time I saw it in 1973, I was hooked. I don't like to see a movie twice, but I have seen this one more than twenty times. Every time I watch it I am challenged, thrilled, and lifted into intimacy with Jesus by the incredible example of St. Francis.
Zeffirelli shows how Francis changes from a spoiled, rich, rebellious young man into a sold out follower of Jesus Christ. As Francis' friends watch his life, many of them are also changed and together they all follow Jesus with joy, abandon, passion, and loving service to the poor.
Brother Sun, Sister Moon shows a style of Christianity that is very difficult to find in our world. This movie helped set me on a lifelong pursuit of sold out Christianity. |

Its such a great movie.
I attend the Franciscan School of Theology and my parents are Baptist. They really didn't "get" the Franciscans or St. Francis until I bought this film for them. They both loved it. |
