| Who's life is it anyway? |

| I was driving my wife & I to work this AM, when we notice a major back up in an area that isn't normally backed up. As we slowly approached the reason, I guess I wasn't that surprised to see the all it was was an 18-wheeler that had gone off the road & they were hooking it to the tow truck. The truck was way off the road. There were no lanes blocked. All it was is that people wanted to see what was going on, so they were slowing down to see it. This kinda clicked in my head the many times I have seen this. With over 18 years on the street as a paramedic, I have seen what are affectionately called Rubberneckers. People have just got to see what is going on. Unfortunately, this has caused other accidents by those not paying attention to their driving. Getting more interested in what was going on with someone else instead of paying attention to what they were doing. Please forgive me for the next little rant I am about to have. Why were & are Soap operas (day & night) so popular. Shows like General Hospital, Days of our lives, Gilmore Girls, The OC, BH 90210, Sex in the city, Desperate Housewives & the list goes on. I believe (Only Opinion, Don't shoot me!) that there is not enough going on in our lives, that we have to live our lives through other people. Have you ever notice that if someone brings up the words "Did you hear what ----- did?" that most peoples ears perk up? We want to know. What is going on in their lives that is not going on in ours? Don't get me wrong, I believe in dreams & goals & sometimes you can see those dreams & goals being fulfilled through other people. This may drive you on to make them reality in your own life. But what exactly are we watching to fuel those dreams. Forgive me for picking on some of these, I am sure there are many more I could pick on. Desperate Housewives, this is ironic because this show is about the very thing I am talking about. They too are wanting what other people have & doing what ever it takes to get it. But at what cost? Broken families? Scarred relationships? Jealousy & Mistrust? Physical & mental abuse? It isn't just this show, but a good portion of daytime & prime time shows. Now I need to say that not everything on is going to destroy you & some people have the ability to watch some of these shows & learn not to do the things they see. Come on, I grew up on violent cartoons. Hitting each other, pushing persons off cliffs, poking people in the eyes. Surely none of that affected me,but look at our children. As a child, I didn't know that certain things could hurt someone so badly. They always recover on the TV, don't they? I know we have all heard, more than once, how we are like computers. The things we put in our brain are the things that come out. Unfortunately this is so true. We may not go out & do everything we see on TV, but it does let our guard down. It does make it easier. We say to ourselves, it all worked out for such & such. But in a world where divorce is 2 out of 3 marriages, something is going on. We see how others, According to the media are living & we want that for ourselves. Sometimes at any cost. Sometimes we will do something even at the cost of our own moral standards. Our money, material possessions, intimate life, job, etc. are not everything we want them to be. That causes stress in our marriages & it's not just us that suffers, but what about our kids. The ones that you're saying "I can't understand why they do the things they do". They see the things you are fighting over & they don't want that kind of life. So they look at the lives of those in music, TV & because they can't see the whole picture (What goes on behind the scenes) they strive for that lifestyle. I want respect, power, and money!!! I thank God for those teens that I see & talk to, that say they just want peace. They just want to have people stop fighting & enjoy what they have. Because they are right!!!! Have you ever been awakened out of a really good dream, & you just wish you could go back to it!! I heard a very smart person say "Stop just dreaming about, wake up & live it"! These are great words. Those of us that believe in the saving grace of Jesus have the greatest opportunity & challenge we could have. Our lives are full of drama; adventure, comedy & we know how it ends. We truly do live happily ever after for eternity!!! Most of the people I meet have incredible talent & abilities they don't even recognize. God has given us the most incredible powers we could ask for (Kind of like the show "Heroes") we have the power of communication with the very one that created everything that exists. Stop & really think about that!!! You see someone in need, pray " & the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous will accomplish it". That's power!! "Delight yourselves in the LORD & He will give you the desires of your heart", Ask & it shall be given, Seek & you shall find, Knock & it shall be open unto you"! This is here because we have a father that loves us & as Jesus said "I come to give you an exciting abundant life". But in all this He also says thru James "Let him ask in unmovable faith.... or you wont receive anything" Ok that was a free translation. Go read JAMES 1. You must believe that your Daddy wants the very best for you!!! 1 Peter 1:6-9 "This makes you very glad, even though now maybe you are sad because you have troubles of many kinds. They are only for a short time. To believe is worth more than to have gold. Gold can spoil, but it is tested by fire to show that it is good. So troubles test you to prove that you believe. Then, because you really believe, you will be praised and made great and have honor when Jesus Christ comes again. You love him even though you have not seen him. You trust him even though you do not see him. And so you are very happy. No words can tell how happy you are. Your joy is very great. God will reward you because you have believed. You will then be fully saved" Thanks for reading Bill |

| Bill, you have some great thoughts and concerns. I'm sure almost all would agree. So how do we take some practical steps to bring about change? Do we believe establishing another church, program, ministry will solve it? Personally, I think we have too many already.
We know all you mentioned above does not please God..in fact it grieves Him deeply. I do believe all the problems in the world can be summed up in this: people don't really know God. When I say this, I don't mean they haven't been "saved." I mean they really don't KNOW Him in an intimate way. I think God has gotten a whole lot of "bad press" through the years. So we have grown up with a lot of hang ups about God and a whole lot of misconceptions.
It starts with each of us individually. Not the church, not someone else, but just God and me. The more "I" get to know Him intimately, learn of Him, seek His heart, etc. the more "I" can begin to let God flow out of me toward others. Eventually others will see something different and maybe even want to know more. We may be able to introduce them to God (not just take them to church). Who knows where it can go from there.
What do you think Bill?

| Good words Charlie! I believe you are exactly correct. If we ("I") can learn everyday to say these 2 words "Yes LORD!" Things can change. We won't cure the world's woes, the Bible is very clear on this. But we CAN change the world around us. Our Sphere of influence. I am not responsible for God's words, but I am responsible for getting them out there to those around me Or those that might read something I write. I don't take any of that lightly, thats why it is so important, like you say, to have an intimate, hand in hand walk with our Lord. So today & everyday its "Yes Lord"
Thanks Charlie |

| Hi,
Mind if I sit for a spell?
My wife and I are into Real Estate (she's the Agent, I'm the gopher), and recently we've seen an area North of Denver, with big nice wrap around porches, they seem to be making a comeback (maybe?).
What this conveys to me is; maybe people want to get back (a little bit), to those yesteryear days, when family and friends would sit out on their front porches and talk (maybe?). For awhile houses were being built without them, because no one was sitting out there, they were in watching TV, (maybe?).
Anyway... my wife and I, are big fans of the Andy Griffith show, and that time and the things they did, out on their front porch, was realistic to us, because we had done it when we were kids. But it was an era that seemed to have gone by the wayside, because of the elimination of porches and the intro of the TV.
Oh sure, people still hoop and holler in their backyards, but not much rocking and talking, out on the front porch. So, along with your blog, it has got me to thinking, of how much MyChurch and blogging, is a bit like the front porch. Sort of the modern day front porch; instead of watching TV, we can fellowship like this. One gigantic drawback however is, we can't walk down together and get a soda pop or an ice cream.
But the Good News is, some day we will.

| Robert, That my friend was a breath of fresh air!! I hope you see my response, because those are the type of comments I like. Its not that I sit around and talk about the good ole days, ('cause some of them weren't all that good) Its just that I like the idea of slowing down & spending time making friends & enjoying the beauty thats around us. God created us to hang out together with Him & Just like you say Robert, that day is coming. God Bless you sir!!!
