The Forgotten

This is so sad it breaks my heart as you know Mom is for right now still in a nursing home and she has the sweetest little lady as a room mate she is 94 yrs old...Her family comes to bring her laundry and that is about it they bring flowers some times but they never sit and stay for a visit it's rush in and back out....Mrs Gray that's her name she just stays in her room all day she doesn't get out at all....She loves when Mom eats in the room that way she doesn't eat alone....Yesterday i took Mom to church and out to lunch while i was getting Mom ready to go Mrs. Gray just watched as Mom and i joked and had a good time. We said goodbye and off we went when i looked back Mrs' Gray looked sad I just thought she was just going to miss Mom. Well when we took Mom back at 3pm Mrs. Gray was still sitting in her chair as if she'd not moved all day.I helped Mom in to the restroom befored she laid down for her nap i wore her out..hehe any way when i came out of the restroom it looked like Mrs. Gray had been crying and i thought oh man what has dad said now if you know my dad you will understand  he's not the most tackfull man ever. another anyway when we got out to the car he told me Mrs.Gray had said she wished her family would come and visit her the way we do with Mom and take her out to church and to lunch...It just broke my heart i started thinking you really don't see many vistors there ever for anyone...Once in a great while.....If you have some one that's in a nursing home they need you more now than ever if you don't have some one in a nursing home some one would love a visit from you.....What a wonderful way to make new friends......

Restore Mike and Deb thank you so much for your comments and support Deb thank you for sitting with Mom while i got the car...She had a really good day out yesterday and she prayed when Pastor prayed and she was alittle upset at offering time she knew she didn't bring any money to give but Dad had sent some for her to put in and that made her very happy....jairah20 i feel the same as you do i feel we should take care of our eldery...I'm the youngest and i was out voted...........GOD will raise her up and bring her out....I believe American is the only place where the elderly are put in homes......I get my compassion from my Mom she was a nurses aid in the hospital for many years and even when she quite she would bring friends home to care for who were sick or had surgery...She's always been a care giver what a great thing to inherit......

  Hello Rosie, i recently wrote about a visit i had with my grandmother. It is so sad to see the forgotten people who are in the nursing homes. We need to reach out to those who dont have the joy of having someone say "i love you", or to just hold thier hand. Alot of them would love to sing an old hymn from long ago. God bless you!

I used to work in a nursing home, and there were many people there who seldom had visitors.  Some of them had family in every day, but most were not like that.  It is sad.  So many are so lonely.  Even if you don't know someone in a nursing home, get a group together at church and go visit them!  They love visitors, even if they don't know you!

Thanks Deb it's good hearing from someone who knows what it's like for the residents there....Mike N Laura they go to the nursing home in their town and take their kids that is so wonderful that they are teaching their kids how to reach out to others I know there are others who do the same I've just read some of Mike's blogs that talk about it that's why i'm using him as an example...Shannon and my niece Debbie and I went christmas caroling at two of the nursing homes this year and it was great....They all really enjoyed it and so did we.....
