Dear Friends and Family,
I am happy today (2/24/07) with good news. The results of my annual MRI came in the mail today with this message from my neurologist: "Stable MRI. No new problems." Every year since my 2005 Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis, I have had an MRI to keep a watch on the progression of the disease through the lesions it causes on my brain.
I'm one of the fortunate ones. Although I have apparently had the disease for about 14 years, it appears to be a "benign" case, meaning it is progressing at a very slow rate, and although it is sometimes annoying, it has not affected my work or my motor skills. I am even running 5K races occasionally!
Many are not so fortunate. Every hour of every day, someone is diagnosed with MS. MS is a progressive disease of the nervous system, causing symptoms that may include numbness, fatigue, dizziness, incontinence, slurred speech, or problems with balance, vision, or cognition. Many MS sufferers progress to the point of being unable to work and needing a wheelchair to get around.
I have registered again to walk in the 2007 MS Walk in Salisbury, NC on April 14, and am inviting you to help me raise funds for MS research and programs. There is currently no known cause or cure for MS, but research is very active, and new discoveries are being made all the time. Currently, for example, there is much promise in the area of stem-cell research, and also there are some treatments being tested in pill form. (All progression-slowing treatments are now in vaccination form.)
If you would like to have a part in stamping out this disease, you can join the walk (register on-line at http://www.nationalmssociety.org/), or you can make a tax-deductible donation, of any size, large or small, either of the following ways: You can e-mail me for a direct link to my personal MS page or for my mailing address, or you can personally hand me a check made out to the National MS Society, anytime prior to April 14.
In 2005 you helped me to raise $1,030 and in 2006 $1,145. Thank you so much for your support!
If you would like more information about Multiple Sclerosis, the National MS Society, how proceeds from the MS Walk are used, or the other ways you can get involved in the fight against MS, please visit nationalmssociety.org.
Thank you for the many ways you have supported me the past 2 years. Your prayers and care are the greatest sustenance!
Love, Kathy

| That's great, Kathy. I understand about waiting for good news and I understand about being one of the fortunate ones--fortunate in progression and fortunate in knowing God's faithfulness in an especially unique way. Keep pressing on toward the mark!
God bless you,
Pastor Dan |

Hi Kathy!
I realize this is an older entry, but I wanted to let you know my younger son who is 34 also has MS for about 2 years or so now. I thought this might be a good way to pray one for another and connect in a very special way. I'll be praying for you. My younger son's first name is Peter who goes by Pete. God bless and keep you in this as one of His precious children.

| Hi msd! It is never too late to comment on a blog! I especially appreciate the later comments! I will pray for Pete and would welcome hearing more about his situation, here or privately. If he's interested in the internet, encourage him to join MyChurch, and he will find a community of support and love here. Welcome to MyChurch, msn, and God bless you and your family! |
