Can you image if we, literally, could donate our extra pounds? I will be at Goodwill or any Salvation Army thrift store every Monday MORNING, dropping off the extra pounds and calories consumed during the weekend.
But, HELLO!?!...We can’t do that! However, there is something we can do; “present our body as a living sacrifice”
Usually we start a new eating plan without setting the right reasons for doing it. Here is my question; why do you want to lose some weight? If your answers are: Because, I have a party, I feel so heavy, I want to feel pretty, I want to fit in my old pants again or even health is not the reason.
Those could be a byproduct of having healthy habits and in consequence you get a healthy life. But I’ve found that many people lose their enthusiasm because they can’t see the “outcomes” they want in a short time.
Few months ago I was praying about my living and eating and I said God give me something important to keep in mind, help me to understand why I’m doing what I’m doing and He said: “Remember Romans 12, and also think in this; How could you say Lord I give you my life if you can’t give me your body, which is the least.”
Patience is a key ingredient in this journey of losing weight but more important is “your motive”
The Bible says “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” The only way you can find peace in this process is adding spiritual truth to your effort. Fitting in a dress or looking better will never satisfy the pain that the sacrifice produces. Sooner than later, you’ll give up if the results are not the one expected.
Adding spiritual truth to your effort and sacrifice means that you want to lose weight as a worship expression, because you understood that your body is not yours but God’s, you decided to present your body as a living sacrifice, you are committed to live a long life until you see your grandchildren’s children.
Donate your weight to God as a worship expression! It’s a motive!
Let’s look again at what Paul says in Romans 12:1,2 (Amplified). In verse 1, he writes to the church, "Please, because of God's mercy, give to God your body and mind (faculties) as a living sacrifice."
This tells us that our minds and bodies should be set apart and that this is a rationale, reasonable and intelligent thing to do. It is a form of spiritual worship. Any time we need help, change or freedom in an area of our life, we must submit ourselves to God's will and authority. This is how our victory came.
I’ve realized that every effort I made toward losing weight and keeping it off is simply a work of my own thinking and my own flesh. Oh yes, I wanted God's help more than anything else—only I was not willing to submit to Him where my eating and exercise habits were concerned.
I want you to meditate during this week on Romans 12:1. Here is the main motive of our diet because Paul was speaking to Christians saying that it is possible to commit your life to the Lord for the purpose of salvation, and yet not be yielded to the Lord in our daily lives. It is only when we make the total sacrifice of every area of our lives that we begin to see God's perfect will manifest through our lives.
12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service.
Do you want to see God’s perfect will manifest in your life? So there is your real motive! |

Oh yes, I wanted God's help more than anything else—only I was not willing to submit to Him where my eating and exercise habits were concerned. I totally get this, I have whined and whined at God, "Lord why don't you help me..." and never ever submitted this area of my life. While doing a study with "First Place" I got revelation also of how food was an idol to me... all of a sudden I recalled that for weeks after my husband passed away my house was never without rootbeer float popsicles....it was like I was saying "oh rootbeer float popsicles, please help this hurt go away" That's the thing about a weight problem unrelinquished to the Lord because it's such a catch 22, a place of self loathing that you feed with food instead of with His love, and wisdom. |
