| Police car: free ride |
|
| |
I went on a free ride in a police car this weekend. I WAS in the front seat! I went on a ride-along with a high-school friend who is now a Police Officer. As I sat in the car and looked at all the buttons and cords and 'toys' he had, fond memories of being in my dad's police car when I was a little girl drifted through my mind. My daddy would say, now sit down AND don't touch anything! Wow, what a temptation those buttons were for a small child. My friend had to make several stops for speeding, vandalism, unfortunately on fights, and Domestic Violence where a lady got beat-up because her husband could not find his cigarette lighter.
As he was out of the car attending to the call he responded to I was reminded of our walk with Jesus. God simply asks us to have a seat in His 'car of life' and let Him do the driving. Through temptations He already gave us guidelines that says, don't touch~these things will hurt you or let loud things go off in your life such as sin and that it can be shouted from a mountain top! Just like my daddy, God lovingly says, come, sit, put on your seat-belt and let me drive, come feel safety in my protection, peace from the outside world.
In the police car we may want to push some buttons to see what they would do, that is human nature; however we would not. We would be obedient and respectful to the authority man has given. Are we respectful and obedient to God's divine authority? When He is not looking 'so we think~He is omnipresent' would we push the buttons?
32:1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. 32:2Blessed is the man unto whom Jehovah imputeth not iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no guile. 32:3 When I kept silence, my bones wasted away Through my groaning all the day long. 32:4For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: My moisture was changed `as' with the drought of summer. Selah 32:5I acknowledged my sin unto thee, And mine iniquity did I not hide: I said, I will confess my transgressions unto Jehovah; And thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah 32:6For this let every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: Surely when the great waters overflow they shall not reach unto him. 32:7Thou art my hiding-place; thou wilt preserve me from trouble; Thou wilt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will counsel thee with mine eye upon thee. 32:9 Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding; Whose trappings must be bit and bridle to hold them in, `Else' they will not come near unto thee. 32:10Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he that trusteth in Jehovah, lovingkindness shall compass him about. 32:11 Be glad in Jehovah, and rejoice, ye righteous; And shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.
Am I obedient to The Authority who loves me or being controlled as a mule or horse with a bit in my mouth. Where are you at in obedience to God? My favorite verse of this chapter is: 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will counsel thee with mine eye upon thee. He will guide us along the best pathway for our life. He will advise us and watch over us. Have you surrendered to Him? Do you let Him drive the car of your life? |

| Yes Cheryl I did push the buttons sometimes and you know what? It set off these loud alarms and I could have crawled under the seats. It is always best to be obedient. |

| Wonderful blog, Cheryl. I am like Mike, I wanna push the buttons & DRIVE! I am learning to leave it all to Him, to trust Him more each day. Sometimes the desire to be in control rises up--oh but I can not possibly truly be in control!! My "in control" is so way out of control!!!! It is so much better to leave it all up to Him. Have a great day! |

| I have learned how to ignore the buttons and allow God to drive. It took me a few years but this method allows me to just relax and enjoy the ride/view........... |

| I think it is our tendency to want to do it all ourselves and our way...at least I am guilty of that! It is hard to let go and let God take control. But we have to do it, or we will keep hitting our heads against a brick wall. Great blog, and I love the analogy! |

I was praying last night and God gave me the same thought: "God simply asks that we sit in 'His car of life', put on our seat-belts and let Him do the driving." In NT language, He says, 'Abide in Me' Thanks. |

| I'm sure your ride was interesting, to say the least! What a shame for the woman to be beaten for anything, but over a cigarette lighter! I know what you mean about the temptation to punch all those buttons. :) Good advice you gave, get in HIS car and let HIM do the driving! Great blog, Cheryl. |

Cheryl, When we try to drive our 'car' (life), we have all the difficulties in this world. When we learn to 'ride the car' with Him in the driver's seat and tell Him, "Lord, may Your will be done", we have a comfortable 'life journey' as the problems are taken care by Him. This is a great narration and I really enjoyed reading this and was reminded of my own 'car ride' in life. |
