Every now and then, the Lord does something really small, yet we see it for what it is, God Almighty manipulating the things of this world for his glory, and it gives us "glory goosebumps"! Here's an example.
Yesterday evening, at home, some things were on my mind which the Lord had done, some things for which I felt compelled to give God praise. So I picked up a hymnal and began singing "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing", one of my all-time favorites. (Now before you start thinking, "wow, this guy is sooo spiritual, he even sings hymns spontaneously", be warned, my next blog may be about exactly how un-spiritual I am prone to be!)
Well, as I finish verse two, Laura, who at the moment is apparently in no singing mood, sits down nearby and gives me a "look". So I stop singing, we talk, and the softly spoken words "holier than thou" come out of her mouth. My mood of joy and thanksgiving in serious peril at this point, I retreat to the bedroom to attempt to pick up the pieces of my most "spiritual" moments of the day. (Now before you start thinking, "gee, this woman is sooo un-spiritual", be warned, my next blog just may be about exactly how very spiritual she actually tends to be!!!) She follows shortly thereafter, we talk more, I realize that an invitation for her to join would have been supremely thoughtful, and the world is right again! Ah, the joys of Christian marriage! lol
Well, can you guess what the topic of Laura's morning devotion just happened to be today? If you guessed "rejoicing and singing spontaneously to the Lord", you guessed right! Haha, don't you dare try to tell me that was simply a coincidence!! 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always: again I will say, Rejoice.

Hey Mike, I had to look up this verse, "hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life (Prov.13:12)." Could we change it to say, singing deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life? I know many songs came about because hope was lacking. But after the singing... what restoration! Hope you and yours have a great Valentines Day. R... |

Hey R, thanks!! Hope you have a good Valentines Day as well....just don't follow Juan's example! lol
Elizabeth & Ruth....yes and yes!! (weird and funny!) |

Definitely not a coincidence. A similar thing happened to me this week: I couldn't sleep one night because I was struggling with task after task that needs to be done. So what does my Bible study offer the next morning? A reminder to be selective regarding the tasks I choose to complete (taken from Proverbs 31:12-13). The Lord has a way of using our lives to prepare us to receive His word fully!
BTW, I am prone to spontaneous song as well, although I tend to break out in Hillsongs worship music (much to my children's chagrin). :-)

Mike, I think we would get along well together. I love to just sing praises to our God but usually keep it to my car ride to and from work. don't want to break any ear drums ; ) But God always uses what he will in our lives, even when we least expect it. I also think He maybe prompting you to be a little more inclusive in your worship time? Thanks for sharing your family with us. peace and have a great Valentines Day.
Just a side note, we had lesson on the origins of the day from our 15 yr old this morning. He is taking latin in school and I think they discussed it there. Go figure. |

Mike one can never be too spiritual when it comes to giving our Lord praises. Now me, I can't sing, but I'm always chirping around the house.... Pastor Ken can sing, (I'm so inlove with his voice) but rarely shares his blessings around the house.... so every now and again, when I do hear a tune come forth from him..... I just jump right in, enjoying Jesus right along with him. Tell Laura for me to try that the next time.... spontaneous-ness is so beautiful when uninterrupted.
Happy Valentine's Day to you both

I was very upset with someone because they had said and done some very hurtful things to me. I was struggling with this to the point of it making me miserable. At the hardest part of this one...I opened up a devotional that I get daily...The theme??? You must for give your friend, with all of the scriptures that go with this teaching! Wham!! Hit me like a ton of bricks. Although I already knew this...the devotional and the way it came was just what I needed to receive.
Thanks for sharing! |

We hear over and over "Don't worry". We are human and that is one of our faults that will not go away, but you are right, GOD has a way of bringing us back to where he wants us to be. My husband and I are going through a financial crisis and job crisis right now. It is ironic that both of us may lose our jobs because of the economy. My husband has been sick and by the grace of our Father is recovering, however the company that he is working for is laying off and he may be one of them due to age (60) and health reasons. My job may be closing their doors because we cannot get money owed from the state(ironic, huh). We administer therapy to fragile and disabled children and is primarily paid through state funded programs. I tossed and turned last night pondering, praying and pleading and didn't sleep very well. The song I heard this morning is called "This is it!" by Kirk Franklin and listened to some scriptures read on the Yolanda Adams morning Show.
In essence everything I heard was saying, "You are an heir to the kingdom, why are you worrying?" I STARTED TO SING AND PRAISE MY FATHER.
Too many times in my life things have happened and I called it coincidence (Not). It is our Father in his own way reassuring, guiding and blessing his children... Sing Mike and let your heart, fears, joy and praises be poured out to the one who deserves your PRAISE..... |

| Amen to my "holier than thou" brother ! :) |

The sweet joy of a hymn! Always the way to praise and bring peace! Thanks Mike! |
|
|
| They had reports of some strange noises in Md, many dogs in and around the area were worked into a frenzy by it all. Now we know! |
|
|
Paul, nooooooo! (Thanks bro!)
Mary- amen! (I STARTED TO SING AND PRAISE MY FATHER. ) Glad to see you singing!!
Cathy, God is always "just in time", isn't he? Except when we expect him to arrive in our time. Hmmm, could it be that you were meant to blog about this?
Pastor Aminata, your love for Ken is truly an inspiration to us this Valentines Day!
Glenn- oh I know we would get along famously! And yes, a secondary lesson here is that I should be more inclusive....believe me, I won't forget that one! :-)
Cheryl & Doyle, thank you so very much!
Sooz - I think that I have finally stopped believing in "coincidences". It's just easier to believe everything is controlled arranged and manipulated by an all-knowing, all-present, all-powerful (and yes, all-loving) Father God, than to believe in mere chance..... :-) |

my singing moments of spontanaeity generally come in the car by myself...
I love "Come thou fount"....it's one of my all-time favorite hymns. |
|
|
Rich - our walls are thick, and the dogs in this neighborhood are tied up! lol - God bless you brother!
Amen Keith, hymns are indeed a sweet joy, especially when children sing along!! |
|
|
| Loren, I am with you! Singing in the car is the best! But occasionally, just occasionally, a hymn in the house....... You and I will sing "Come Thou Fount" together one day brother, whether here or in the Lord's presence.... a comforting thought, count on it! |

Hmmm! This thing with my former friend/boss is still sort of a struggle...but maybe writing about it could help me get total closure. Life is tough sometimes, isn't it? The thought came to me that she is struggling too...and that even though she said so many nasty things about me...I should understand where she is at...and be forgiving like The Lord forgave me.
Love you guys!!
Forgiven. |

| Heaven forbid you and Laura are human! lol My Mike and i have our moments like these. When one person isn't so uppity at the moment, you could almost club the one who is. lol We take turns being the uppity person or the not-in-the-mood-for-that-right-now person. lol |
|
|
Lara, when the Lord wrote the book on humanness, he included us as examples!
Thanks Cathy, my dear sister. That's a tough lesson, one we should all take to heart. |

| Make a joyful noise!! I am one that loves to sing, so you can often hear me singing around the house, whether anyone is there or not. I am singing to the One who gave me the joy of singing...what could be better than that? |

Ahh! Now all is right with the world ... until the next time :) I love that hymn 2! |
|
|
| Can I spontaniously sing if I'm convicted to do it? |
|
|
| By all means Dave.... Although I learned from my experience that I should invite those with me to join in. Could that be a lesson for you too? |

Excellent blog. How I wish we would all sing more! I remember times in my deepest trials when all that was left were the Songs of Zion! I couldn't pray, but I could sing! |
|
|
Thanks so much, Pro-. Those must have been some pretty extreme trials. I can't even imagine being in a place where all I had left were songs... wow. Good reminder that we came into the world w/nothing, and we can take nothing with us when we leave. God bless you! |
