| The Greatest of these....my thoughts on Valentines Day |

I've given some thought to the celebration of Valentines Day today. It was actually prompted by a memo I saw from another MyChurch friend. Valentines Day as celebrated today is mostly a commercial affair. Time for people to go out and buy chocolates and/or flowers (or horses….right Juan?) for their loved ones. It got me to thinking…how can we, as Christians, meditate on some scriptural principles that would apply to Valentines Day. I would think that it would be easy really, the overriding theme of the Bible is Love. Love from a God who gave his only Son to die for us. Psalms to a loving God praising him for his character and attributes. Love commanded by God to love him and our neighbors. Love holds promises in the bible. If we show it, experience it, live it - it can transform us.
I Corinthians 13 is a good study on what love is…and what it is not. It's summed up by the last verse in the chapter…vs. 13
13:13And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these [is] charity.
Galatians 5 talks about the fruits of the Spirit…what is the first one listed?
5:22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
So today, as we go about showing love….I'd challenge you…don't just show love - experience it, live it, let it transform you. God wants love to flow over us so that we can show it to a world who is desperately seeking for an answer to their problems. WE HAVE THAT ANSWER.
3:16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
