Many church goers believe that unless you are an officer or local officer, you can not be a leader. There many people in our congregations, who want to strive to be more than they are but do not know how. The Bible offers many ways to become good leaders. First and foremost, we as Christians are called to lead people to Christ. We can do this in many ways. The most simple is to live a Christian life and let others to see what God is doing for you. Second, testify, testify, testify. Share with others what God done in your life since you became a Christian. Third, work with one of the church ministries. Show others you care.
The second way to show leadership in the church is through stewardship, Many think that stewardship is comprised mainly of tithes and offerings. Wrong, God is entitled to all the first fruits of our works. As, I stated earlier tithes and offerings are very important part of stewardship but there are many others. Time is one of the most forgotten gifts that we receive. We as Christians and most especially as Salvationists should give of our time freely to the many ministries within the body of the church. Since God created us, shouldn't we give back a portion of it in service to Him (Going to church doesn't count). Finally, one of the most overlooked gifts is the Word of God. He gave it to us not only to study but to share with others (both believers and non- believers).
Another way to show leadership in your church is prayer. Prayer is one of the mightiest tools we have Christians. Praise Him always but don't forget your brothers and sisters in Christ. Lift them up always no matter the reason. Prayer is not only for the sick or soul sick but for the upright as well. Thank Him for all the blessings and wonders your church receives. When times are tough praise Him. When times are great, praise Him.
A final way to show leadership is love. Show love to the Lord. Worship Him in all that you do. Love your neighbors, show compassion when others would not. Give a hug when you rather would not. Love is not selfish but selfless. Honor Him, your brothers and sisters, as well as every stranger you meet
Leadership is not a position, it is an act. While you may not have a position within the Church, you will have a place waiting for you Heaven. Being a leader, is about leading nothing more nothing less. If you choose to lead others might not notice by God most definitely will. |
