The old testament is full of many fearless men. I can't believe some of the things that people have done!
1 Chron 20:6-7 In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot—twenty-four in all. He also was descended from Rapha. When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, David's brother, killed him.
Dude!!!! This guy was HUGE! He has an extra finger and toe on each had and foot! WHOA!!!! Now the decendants of Rapha were big dudes, and they had many battles against the Isrealites, but this guy is the only one with extra fingers and toes. But the Isrealites struck down each one of the decendants of Rapha, and Isreal was the strongest in that day.
So this next passage descibes one the the top five warriors in Israel at that time
2 Sam 23:20-23 20 Benaiah son of Jehoiada was a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, who performed great exploits. He struck down two of Moab's best men. He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. 21 And he struck down a huge Egyptian. Although the Egyptian had a spear in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear from the Egyptian's hand and killed him with his own spear. 22 Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he too was as famous as the three mighty men. 23 He was held in greater honor than any of the Thirty, but he was not included among the Three. And David put him in charge of his bodyguard.
So Benaiah was one of the top 5 warriors in Israel, and look at all the things he did. He struck down two of the best men in Moab, one of Israel's biggest adversaries. The next verse says he went into a snowy pit and killed a lion, although it doesn't say why. It could've been the lion hurt someone, or maybe it was a direct order so it wouldn't hurt anybody. I personally think that Benaiah didn't like cats. Then after that, he went against an Egyptian and killed him with his own weapon! Not only that, but he became in charge of protecting King David!
I can't imagine how these men did the wonderful things they did, but I do know that they did them. They had such power, courage and strength. It's amazing! They knew that playing it safe was dangerous. And doing what was dangerous was safe. They did what was dangerous by faith, and without faith it is impossible to please God. Doing nothing, or not changing what you are doing is easy, but it takes real faith to go where God wants you.
I feel that's where COH is right now, chasing lions. We aren't staying where it is comfortable, but we are going outside of the monotony and into the unknown. We are getting ready for the next step in our spiritual growth. And we are preparing ourselves to be fearless. And fearless doesn't mean that we aren't afraid, it just means that when fear starts building up, we do what God wants us to do, nit what we want to do. |
