| Chinese Take-Out and a Teddy Bear |
|
| |
The day dawns cold and crisp. I recall Greg getting up to make coffee. He's an early riser, while I'm the night owl of the family. I feel a small grin cross my face, and yawn as sleep overcomes me once more. Later, Maddie wakes me when she bounces into the room, her collar jingling. "Is it time to get up?", I say to her. She runs around the room, her tail wagging in agreement. "Okay!" I make the bed, scrub my teeth and face, run a brush through my hair and I'm outta there. It is when I enter the kitchen that my mind sparks to life... for I spot something pink. Really pink! Something that I don't get just every day, you know. Sitting there on the kitchen table, waiting for me, is a Pink Teddy Bear! And a Pink Envelope with my name on it! Oh my word!!!! It is Valentines Day and my Number One Boyfriend has remembered me again! He has lavished me with his love and made me feel special. He knows about my Teddy Bear thing... I hug my Teddy Bear and take Greg his handmade Valentine card to him in the office. I give him a big hug and kiss before I give his card. He looks at and says, "You made this?" I nod my head yes. He smiles and puts it up where he can look at it. Call it sentimental, call it tradition; it's all about caring and having fun with each other. We celebrate everyone in the family, including our grandson Jack. My Daddy did the same things for my sisters and I, and included the grandchildren. In fact, Daddy kept up the tradition until he died in May of 2000. He was a Millionaire Man. A good and sweet man, just like my Greg. We eat Chinese take-out and I write my blog. Happy Valentines Day... |

Carol: When the bears take trips... they take a bit of baggage and end up in special places. Doyle: As always, thank you. I know you liked stuffed animals too. Mike: Are you hungry? You must be! Kathy: The profile pic is a dog, silly girl! I have stuffed puppies too. Sondra: I started buying them after my Grandma and Daddy died in January and May of 2000. I don't why, really, because I never cared for them before. It became a compulsion of sorts. I was trying to provide self-comfort without really knowing what I was doing until a Grief Counselor pointed it out to me in November of that year. It took about two years for me to give them up, but by that time I loved them and people gave them to me. At one time, I would think I had over 150 bears. Then.... they started going on trips. I keep the ones that my family and good friends give to me. One of my Aunts in West Virginia mailed me a Migraine Bear when I started having Migraines. I couldn't believe it!!! |
