| Psalm 91 |
|
| |
I asked a mychurch friend why God would be blessing me lately. I guess God and I are still working on self image issues. This was his reply. Psalm 91 (Amplified) 1 HE WHO [a]dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! 3 For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. 4 [Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler. 5 You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow (the evil plots and slanders of the wicked) that flies by day, 6 Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. 8 Only a spectator shall you be [yourself inaccessible in the secret place of the Most High] as you witness the reward of the wicked. 9 Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, 10 There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent. 11 For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service]. 12 They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. 13 You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot. 14 Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness--trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never]. 15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation. |

| I started to read this everynight on my first combat tour...and before every patrol. Ended up memorizing it. To make it into a prayer I changed the pronouns to read I when refering to me and You when referring to God. It was a special part of my development and is a very meaningful prayer. |

....or perhaps issues of fear and anxiety?? (Or at least one of you that is....) |
|
|
| Yeah, I am pretty sure God is not stressing over His self image, that reminds me of a Star Trek movie...where they go to a distant planet and find what they thought originally to be God but turned out to be the devil...anyways, while they thought he was God, he kept on changing faces in order to prove teh notion that he had appeared as many things to many people...really ignore me on this one, I fear my train of thought has well...derailed. |

Thanks Doyle! I thought so to. Thanks Patrick, that's awesome! BTW, thanks for serving. Thanks Mike. Sometimes I think I have more issues than National Geographic! I'm just glad God can use them to His glory and my good - whether He takes the issues away or not. You're right Patrick - God certainly isn't stressed over His self image. My train of thought pops off the - oh wow! That's a shiney spoon! |

| Jess my brother, Psalms 91 is a Warrior's prayer. You are a warrior and more than a conquer in Christ! |

Oh, sorry Patrick, there is no spoon.... Thanks Cheryl. It's odd that being a warrior for God invovles giving up so much: giving up my own will; giving up on the idea that my power does anything (that may be more to give up for a guy) ... |
|
|
But you said you saw a spoon...I know you did...you see I ask b/c I often have little blue people trying to hit me with fish while I am trying to keep focused on any certain task...and all of them where oversized Pony brand sneakers...the ones with teh strip and the three dots to the right of the laces...you know...
I am joking
And I knew you were too |

Yes I agree with you guys. Psalms are great solace for different situations in our life. My mom taught me to read different Psalms for different situations. Psalm 1, Psalm23, 91, 100, 103, 150. She made me to recite these Psalms evey sunday after church and before food. No recitation no food, late recitation late food. I realise the importance now... when I am grown up... |

Jess, I truly needed these scriptures. I did not represent My Father today. I let my flesh take control and I lost my temper. I mean I really lost my temper. I have prayed for forgiveness and I know the Lord heard my prayer but it hurts. I can't take it back and I hurt someone because they were hurting me. I know now that I must let Jesus have total control in all situations. Even when we are right, we will handle it wrong. Only Jesus has the right words. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to ramble. |

| You are a child of God. He so longs to bless you, Jess. I know; I feel the same way sometimes, like, "I don't deserve this!" Right! I deserve hell and damnation, but God loves me! |

Thanks Ragland! I love this about Psalms: I can find one for every mood I experience.
Thanks Cheryl. I'm grateful God could help you through me.
Thanks for the reminder Lara. It is hard for some of us to recieve God's blessings sometimes. I need to realize I'll never deserve God's blessing, so I shouldn't worry about getting it =D |

Thanks Deb! I agree, Psalms include just about every mood experience by human beings! There's a lot of inspiration there for every situation in life. Thanks Cheryl! I've come to realize the God who provided me with salvation when I sought Him for it will also provide me with sanctification when I seek Him for that. |

| I am currently taking a class in Wisdom literature, which includes the Psalms. It is definitely a fascinating book of the Bible. |
|
|
| Psalm 91 is one of my favorite psalms. |
