| The Gospel According to Alvin and The Chipmunks |

Today in Sunday School the lesson was on suffering and staying faithful. Toward the end of class, Jimmy, a very special young man who lives in a group home, raised his hand and shared about a movie he had watched, Alvin and the Chipmunks.
After he finished talking I told the teacher this fit in real well with our lesson today. How the chipmunks did not have a home or a family and they accidentally found Dave. Most of us in the class "accidentally" found Jesus. We were hurting, lost, wandering and we found Jesus and came to live with Him, just like the chipmunks with Dave. GOD put us in a family. The chipmunks wanted a family and Dave and they became family. Dave discovered the chipmunks had special talents. Christ knows each of us have our own special talents.
But sadly, just like in the movie, we become discontent, or feel like we deserve better, or whatever, and we leave for "better". More does not equal better. Stuff can never replace family. In the movie, Dave rescues the chipmunks. Jesus rescues us from the treadmill of more, better, more, better, more, better..... And we discover our greatest joy in returning home, to our family.
And just like in the movie, the chipmunks still get into mischief, we still mess up sometimes. We ain't perfect but we are family.
Thanks, Jimmy, for sharing with us today.
