| Social Networking: ages 20 - 60 and up |

| The new york times has an interesting article today on why we’ve been seeing social networking sites refocus their attention towards an older crowd. the argument, and a good one, is that the younger demographic tends to stick around only as long as you’re on the cutting edge or only as long as you’re the latest trend. a few days ago it was friendster, yesterday it was myspace, today it’s facebook, tomorrow it will be something completely different. The older demographic, on the other hand, likes the comfortable. once they’ve learned how to use one site and have created a network, they are most likely to stay there regardless of the latest trends. With almost 80 million baby boomers (almost three times the number of teenagers) and the number of internet users who are 55 or older being the same as the number of internet users in the 18-34 age range, it makes sense to try and capture a audience that’s equally as large but far from being as fickle as the younger crowd. furthermore, given that sites like facebook and myspace already have a majority of the younger people in their paws (and are facing competition from dozens of other virtually similar networks) it seems not only logical but rather smart to tend to the older, untapped audience. I think that MyCorps interface is very user friendly and easy to figure out, and it is a usefull tool to communicate, so I encourage you to invite your friends and relatives en create your own network where you can share your faith and experiences on the past... | Amen, Ed. The more Salvationist on board with mycorps, the better! |

| Oops, I left the "s" off the of end of Salvationist. Sorry. |

| I am in agreement with you Silva, on this. We are still in our infancy in using MyCorps, so it will be interesting to see who and how often it is used by members of our corps. I'll keep you informed, as time progresses. |

| The article provides a great rationale for being involved in MYCORPS.ORG. I want to challenge all who are on the Atlanta Temple network to encourage your friends (whether they are a part of Temple or not) to sign up and be a part of the ongoing conversation. THANKS! |

| Eli: I am embarrassed. I have read a couple of books by an evangelist from Argentina whose name is Ed Silvoso (or something close to it.) Somehow my brain has confused you with him and now for the second time I have called you Ed. I am very sorry. Please forgive me. |

I agree with you. I belong to one other web site (secular) and I have consistently been "on board" for almost five years. I have seen so many come and go after just several months and on a rare occasion some stay for at least a year or so. I realy like this My Church .... it gives me a chance to reconnect with old friends but make new ones as well. luvitsunnyv |

| I think that this article is very interesting. I would like to add another point to this, from personal experience. I think that the most attractive thing to me with MrCorps.org and Facebook is the uniformity of the site and each persons profile. Although the content obviously differs from person to person, the layout and actual information sections are all the same making it extremely easy to find exactly what you are looking for and to communicate within the site. This, I think, makes it far more appealing to the average user. Even if you don;t log on for a few days, you know that when you come back nothing will have changed (as far as functionality etc) making it feel like you never left and - therefore - making sure that you always return! Being on the younger side of the referenced article's age group, I have experimented with several of the big networking sites. I was never extremely happy with any of them until I found Facebook. Now MrCorps.org seems to be better still - providing me with security and confidence of knowing who can access my information and that the people within the network (for the most part) share the same beliefs, values and CHURCH as me. Wow, I have talked a lot. I hope this was all clear! I LOVE MyCorps.org and hope that soon we will be into the 1000s of members!! |

| This is interesting. Honest to God, I never knew what the Salvation Army was about, until this blog explained a little more. I only knew about them from their thrift stores, and from the bell ringers at Christmas. Thanks for sharing. |
