I just happened to catch an ad for my Toastmaster's Club out of the corner of my eye.  It reads thus:

I can vouch for the positive aspects of attending Toastmasters.  You meet new folks from any number of different backgrounds.  You learn communication skills and gain confidence.  Apparently public speaking is STILL the most terrifying event that many people face, even more frightening than death for them.  I know that butterflies vied for space in my tummy the first few times I attended.
