Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
I remember growing up and going to church on Sunday mornings, and laughing at people that “Caught the holy ghost”. They would run around the church in an emotionally draining experience. We laughed as kids because we didn’t understand why God would indwell somebody and make them run around all wacky. After getting saved in my adult life I learned something radically different in regards to the “Receiving The Holy Ghost”.
Peter preaches in Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Quick review, repent (confess you are a sinner, turn from your sins and live For Jesus), next you get baptized (an outward showing of an inward doing) you’ve repented and shown God you’ve changed, your baptism shows the world you belong to God, but what next, what is this “gift of the Holy Spirit”
Prior to Jesus ascension back into Heaven, he left the apostles with a message Acts 1:8 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, an
The message is 1, what you will receive is power, and 2 the reason is to be a witness for Jesus. The gift of the Holy Spirit is the empowerment to perform the work of the ministry. We need not worry about serving God in our own strength or lack there of. How do we know if we’ve received this gift, it’s shown through the fruit bearing life of a believer. Our gift should be bearing fruit for the kingdom of God, and God’s desire is that we bear fruit and that our fruit should remain (John 15:6 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain) Galatians 5:22 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. If you desiring to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, simply pray to the Lord and ask for it If you would like to trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, and have the assurance, the guarantee that when you die you go to be with the Lord forever simply confess to God that you are a sinner, and that you turn from your sins, so that you may live only for Him. In Jesus Name Amen
