Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from His love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit?
Are your hearts tender and sympathetic?
Would you befriend yourself? A celebration pursued as I reached 300 friends. {In the process it became 301 and then the jokes and fun was on!} As I looked at my homepage and was in awe at the pure, loving fellowship enjoyed here on MyChurch, I pondered..would I add myself as a friend... and why?
What qualities do we look for in a friend? Is it different than our Christian friends? Do we have one set here and one set there for what ever occasion~ a party, to gossip, to drink, coarse jokes, a lie..... {Eph.5}
5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are `these': fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousies, wraths, factions, divisions, parties, 5:21 envyings, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; of which I forewarn you, even as I did forewarn you, that they who practise such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
A self-inventory pursued...Father show me anything in my heart that does not please you....
I was lovingly reminded of The Fruit of The Spirit and strive to live in His Holy Spirit with all that I say and do...may it lead others to Jesus.
5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 5:23 meekness, self-control; against such there is no law.
Are you?

| Would I befriend myself....Yes! But then I am easy to befriend. It's keeping the friendships that's the hard thing for me. Always has been. I've always made friends fast and easy, only to let em down later. Kind of makes you want to stop making friends after a while....had to readjust my expectations, of others and myself! |
|
|
| Great post! I pray that I would strive each day to be more like My Jesus. I pray that I would never cause another to stumble. I pray that the Holy Spirit within me would shine for the world to see. Thanks for the meditation. |

Like I wrote in one of my blogs. If I took a week off from myself, where would I go? If I were to invite someone into my brain for a week, where would they vacate to? Strange as it may sound, but how far would people go to get away from it all? Friendship is relatively easy, keeping them is the hard bit, especially when you think of the first two questions. Friendship creates comfort, enemies create movement. So if people are fed up with being fed up, sick and tired of being sick and tired, where's your enemy?
Personally speaking I have friends and I have very good friendships. It wasn't until I found an enemy in life that things started to change. You see, my friends kept me in the comfort zone and never really encouraged me to get away from the stuff that was anchoring me down. They comforted me, they supported me, some even prayed with me. But it never motivated me.
Friendships are good and they can be supportive in times of need or trouble, but...where is your enemy? Once people find that out - it will move them from where they are to where they want to go. As the saying goes, I may not be where I need to be in my walk with God, but thank God I'm not where I used to be. I found my enemy. |

Cheryl, it;s no wonder that you have over 300 friends. Popularity is not the reason - compassion is. Thanks for being there and caring.
Peace! |

Another Cheryl from Oklahoma here.....and WOW!!! Just when I finish studying for the night & go to bed...POW....You guys are all at it, issuing thought provoking, soul searching heart issues.
I love all these posts & was intrigued by gone roaming's comment. I agree that my friends, inner circle, soul mate comforts me, supports me, prays and motivates me......but i disagree that my friends motivate me...that that is done by the enemy.
Yes the enemy had brought in plans that toppled my world (i think of some of the things Cheryl from Edmond has shared), but my friends have been the ones who have encouraged me to pick up the pieces and move in a positve diretion with it. My friends have also challenged me in areas without a major upheaval. I am close enough to my friends to be totally honest & open in this inner circle, and I respect their input and judgment. When they say something that strikes a chord within my heart, I meditate on it, pray about & usually have confirmation within the week as the topic will come up in everyday life in other venues at least three times.
I love that we can have these discussions in love...have a wonderful day! I've got tests this weekend! Cheryl |

Gone Roaming, I like your comments, thank you! What a thought provoking addition about enemies and friends. You are right! {hey that would be a great blog!! hint~hint!} I love the ending of your comments, that is the same saying Joyce Meyers uses: I may not be where I need to be, but thank God I am not where I use to be! Amen brother!!~ Thanks~
Gene, awwwww :) you are awesome and I have grown to love your family more and more! Thanks~ and glad they are off the road...may we use the sidewalks again??!! LOL!!! haha
Cheryl-from-Oklahoma-with-the-great-smile!: Now there are three of us!! Yeah, it'll be a Cheryl fest!! LOL! Making sure we have a Godly bunch of people in our lives is key, I agree my friends help even if I am on a wrong path they will gently and lovingly hit me over the head and say...what are you doing??? LOL!!! All kidding aside though, surrounding yourself with sweet fellowship is it! I have all kinds of friends and love them dearly but when I need a Godly touch I seek Him and my friends that walk close with Him!
Praying for your tests~be encouraged, love ya~
Paul, what wisdom you always have! You still have the prettiest wife!! Love you two!~

| Interesting, Cheryl. Interesting comments, too. It's hard to develop "real" friendships, with trust, etc. . However, unless we are open to other people, we close the door to the possibilities. Godly people can hurt us, especially since our expectations may be that because they are supposed to be "godly" that they are operating in the fruits of the spirit--and many times are not. I try to be a friend but may not be all that another would expect of me, even though I try to operate in the fruits of the spirit myself. Interesting blog! |

| Zach, you changed your name and I had to really look at your pic to make sure that was you! Are you playing tricks on old people!?!? LOL!!! just kidding! hey~I am proud of you, you may not realize it yet but the first step to getting out of a not so healthy situation or friendship is realizing one is there. In highschool {alonggggg time agoooo!} I had to walk away from a group of nine of us that 'ran' around together. They had began doing more and more things that if i participated in would have brought me away from God. I knew that was a danger point and I had to use wisdom. I want every day of my life to exemplify Christ~for I will be the only one to stand before Him when I go home. See ya~ |

| Yahschild, thank you for stopping by, I always look forward to your comments. Your right on target~ we have to have trust to develop real friendships and people will let us down. I have had many on this site say things to me and I was shocked. I simply handled it as I would if they were before me, I showed the love of Christ, prayed for them, and went on. God is a Big God and I do not want nor does He need me to try to be the Holy Spirit to someone, that is God's job. I lovingly react. We are all growing and should be there to help each other and encourage each other, but it crosses a dangerous line when they are dependant on us or we them. As I can tell MyChurch is a site to cultivate Christian relationships and growth, not dependence and a crutch. Great comments, love ya~ |
