| Rev. Ralph Abernathy Spoke Up For Jesus |
|
| |
Famous Civil Rights leader, Ralph Abernathy, was a campus speaker when I was in college. In a packed ball room he told about his experiences in the Movement and about working with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
After his lecture, he asked if there were any questions. I threw my hand up and he picked me. I asked: "Rev. Abernathy, would you please tell us how you came to know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior?"
Rev. Abernathy seemed a bit startled by the question. He paused, then he said: "When I was a young boy I went to the altar one Sunday morning in my father's Baptist church and there I met Jesus Christ. And I've never been the same." Then he got excited. He sounded like he was preaching from the pulpit in that special black-church style. For five minutes or so he boldly declared his love for Jesus Christ.
After we were dismissed, several angry people rushed up to me. One guy said: "Why did you ask him THAT?" "I was curious," I said.
Another firmly stated: "He wasn't here for THAT!" I replied, "He didn't have to answer my question." But I am sure glad he did. Even today, as I remember Ralph Abernathy's passion for Jesus Christ, I am inspired! |

| Those angry people did not understand that the pastor told his testimony of his love for Jesus and how it start his relationship with his savior, By Giving GOD all the glory, and it was nothing wrong with the qustion you asked, now maybe the congregation will follow by telling how and where the met Jesus all things happen for a reeason Steve. |

Be yea always ready (this is not scriptural), but with ( Rev) in front of his name, I would think that he 'd always be ready to talk about Jesus and ready to tell you how you can find Him.
God is everywhere at the same time, He 's all powerful , He's Omniscient, He's Omnipresent , He is the one whom I worship. He is the one who makes man impossiblities /possible. I can see (Rev) now falling into that down home preaching. Trying to maintain His cool when the Spirit of God was all over him. Bringing him back to that old time religion. I know it was hard for him to maintain his cool. I'm sure at some point in that day probably wanted to thank you and tell you how wonderful it was to be reminded of where God has brought him from to where he is now. Because he knows that if it had not been for the Lord on his side. WHERE WOULD HE BE.
You should have told your friends that whether he was there for that or not YOU GOT YOUR ANSWER. Just pray that God continues to keep him until Jesus returns. We are still our brother's keeper. Be blessed |
