Helping husbands step up to manhood

4:15 Then Esther bade them return answer unto Mordecai, 4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast in like manner; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. 4:17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him. 5:1 Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, over against the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the entrance of the house. 5:2 And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favor in his sight; and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. 5:3 Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be given thee even to the half of the kingdom.

·         Choose maturity for yourselves as a couple. Someone has to be mature in the relationship; sometimes that has to be you. Esther could have taken a tone that she would not intervene for her people because he had these precedents that could not be undone. Sometimes we get caught up in our pride (who is really right) and will not humble ourselves to resolve an issue.
·         Speak the truth in love. Whatever your tendency is we need to learn how to speak truth to our spouse in a way that is receptive. Pro. 16:21 So much can be done with kind truth at the appropriate time.
·         We need to create an environment that lets him know that you're with him. Not just what he needs to do but to remind him who he is in Christ. We need to pray to God before approaching our husbands and also ask when is a good time to discuss. Esther 4:15-17
·         Praise him when he does step up to manhood. Thank him when he make integrity related decisions. Praise him when he rises above a situation or makes a sacrifice. Cheer our husband on. Eph 4:29 A man's self esteem/ego is influenced by what their wives think of them.·         Believe in him that he can become a Godly man. God has created us with great purpose and potential. Affirmation can unleash that potential. Luk 1:37.
·         We need to choose to be a Godly wife. Our husbands cannot become godly if we aren't godly. We have an influence and it needs to be ingrained with God's wisdom. We need to pursue godliness. Mat 6:33 When we seek God other relationships improve. Hebrews 4:15-16 We have an inclination to not trust God and to go our own way but we need to check your own attitude. ·         Remember this is a process. There will be times when your husband may revert back to adolescent. We need to be supportive and call him back to manhood. Not mothering him. Gal. 6:9

1.       Do you tend to take on headship when you think your spouse is unresponsive?
2.       How do communicate your needs to your husband? 


Couple's Assignment: Encourage your husband to a task. Don't nag but thank him for taking care of this task. When he completes the task compliment him on what he did best or how much it meant to you.
