Re-reading my entry, I think this was quoted out of context as well. When I wrote, "Considering how [death is] such an exellent device for change..." I was building an argument off an assertion someone else made that elevated death to such an important role in life and biodiversity. My opponent's idea is absurd; I sought to highlight the absurdity. To keep the quote in context, it could be read as, "If death is such an excellent device for change as you say..." Also, reference to "Takers" and "Leavers" is from Daniel Quinn's book "Ishmael" which I blogged on here. The original source of my quote (linked in FSTDT and on my past blog) seems to be down. It was working last week. |
