Many Christians believe that Faith is their ticket to money, prosperity, and many material blessings. I believe that first and foremost our Faith must be in our Lord Jesus Christ. Then whatever He supplies for us we must receive through faith IN HIM. What did Jesus teach about the true riches? Do you remember the rich young ruler? So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” Where would all of the rich young rulers go to church today? I believe that many of them may never hear the conviction of the Holy Spirit about selling material posessions to obtain true TREASURE. They go to the Churches that teach that material wealth is a sign of God's blessing. (if that is true then all of the rich drug dealers/politicians/corporate greedy are blessed). I believe that God does bless us with material provision, but let us never forget the scriptures that teach against the danger of material riches: 1 Timothy 6:6-11 But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this... James1:9-11 The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position. But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower. For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business. Proverbs 30:7-9 "Two things I ask of you, O LORD; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, 'Who is the LORD ?' Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God." I must ask you, do you believe that you have treasure in heaven? Thanks for Reading, Hal |
