Man--I'm blown away.  I just posted a blog that runs pretty concurrent with this.  Prosperity is not God - it's just part of the wrapping paper...the paper (money) is just to dress up the real treasure...what's inside.  Kudos God!  I'll take the true treasure any day over the cutsy wrapping paper.

Kathy, very well said. You always have a way of using the right analogy  to communicate a spiritual truth.  Jesus is indeed our treasure!

I listened this sermon by John Piper awhile back and thought it was great.

PASTOR TIM!!!!

How did you know that I so needed this confirmation today, Praise God.... I so feel the same way, and I'm so disgusted by all this false teaching on wealth and prosperity... yuck.    We are to suffer with Christ.... pick up our cross.....  follow in his footsteps....  and still we don't get it.

As I prepare for the taping for the telecast.... I can't tell you, how blessed I feel, what a priveledge to be able to do this.... God made it all possible....  how financially strapped Pastor Ken and I are.... yet we rejoice!    In 8 months... our podcasts is now over 42,000 downloads.... somebody is watching.... somebody is listening... and not a dime, not a penny have we asked for.

Do we need money, oh yes, the Lord will provide....   as we continue to do His will.

Thank you for this gift of sharing... I need to hear it today.

Jesus came to give us life, and that more abundant.    This means something. Certainly not the excesses !  But it still means whatever it means.   I want nothing more than what Jesus wants, and nothing less.   To want more is error........to want less is error.
Thanks PT for the post..

Pastor Aminata,

You said, "We are to suffer with Christ.... pick up our cross.....  follow in his footsteps....  and still we don't get it."  Amen, Amen, Amen.

It has been said,

The Gospel came to the Greeks, and the Greeks made it a philosophy.

The Gospel came to the Romans, and they made it s system.

The Gospel came to the Europeans, and they made it a culture.

The Gospel came to America, and we have made it a business.

Paul,

If what you said was a sermon, you would get a shout and an amen from me brother. I want no more or no less than what God wants me to have. Great Word brother.

Oh pooper!  Can't watch it. Isn't John Piper the same guy who saw a vision of Heaven, and wrote a book about it???

PT, this is a great message.  The prosperity "Gospel" really IS idolatry.  IT is Jesus and Him alone.

Pastor Tim, that is indeed a powerful message. It scares me to say I'm ready to suffer, I wonder if I've got it in me. But I want to be able to say it. I'm just not sure if I even have a clue what I'm asking for.

We need a transcript so we can send it to Lara. Not that she needs it any more than the rest of us, but I'm sure she's just feeling deprived right about now.....

Lara, No that must be someone else. His website is http://www.desiringgod.org/

Gene, I totally agree. It definitely is Jesus and Him alone!

Mike, I tried to find the transcript for the sermon and it is unfortunately not available.

Here is  quote I thought you might like.

The Bohemian reformer John Hus was a man who believed the Scriptures to be the infallible and supreme authority in all matters. He died at the stake for that belief in Constance, Germany, on his forty-second birthday. As he refused a final plea to renounce his faith, Hus's last words were, "What I taught with my lips, I seal with my blood."

It is not money that leads us away, but the love of money.

But who has ever had $money and not loved it. Wealth corrupts, I think that is why the Lord told young man in Matt. 19, to go and sell all he had and give to the poor, but he could not do it.

30:8 Remove far from me falsehood and lies; Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is needful for me: 30:9 Lest I be full, and deny `thee', and say, Who is Jehovah? Or lest I be poor, and steal, And use profanely the name of my God.
