I have always thought "selah" meant "pause and think calmly on this".  I believe that comes from one of the translations of the Bible that I read.  Even if it means "it stresses the importance of the preceding passage" that is the same idea of taking a minute and thinking about the importance of the preceding passage.  If it means "forever" it is still same idea of thinking about what was just written.  Forever, wow, that is a long time and this passage is forever...  The other meaning "'to hang,' and by implication to measure (weigh)" still carries the same idea--give weight to what was just written, attend to it, give it your attention.  Everyone of these meanings stresses the importance of what was written, just using different verbage to get the idea across.  In modern vernacular maybe it means, "Hey, listen up!"  My own two cents is that regardless of what selah's denotation is taking a minute to meditate on God's Word will never hurt!!

Used to conclude a verse in the Psalms.

obscure Hebrew word occurring many times in Psalms and in Habakkuk. Its derivation is unknown. It may be a musical notation signifying a pause or the end of a phrase.

Reflective pondering pause, or pause and ponder seems to work for me for now.
