How often you get drunk?
I almost can see everybody’s faces with this question; but it’s a question that each of us must make to ourselves from time to time; it’s not only for alcoholic or social drinkers. I’m so excited with this revelation; I pray you may be blessed in the same way I was when I received it! I was looking into the dictionary the definition of drunk. I came across an article that says “Drunk is the term we have used to describe the state of mind or condition in which we put ourselves through use of alcohol.” WOW I never thought in the term of drunk as it! A STATE OF MIND.
Searching online I also found “Drunk means inebriated. Inebriated means confused or stupefied” But let’s look something I’ve been meditating in the Bible, since two or three weeks ago; 1 Peter 5:8 (KJV) “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, and seeking whom he may devour:”Sobriety means be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; it also means keep a cool head. Stay alert! As consequence when we are out of balance in our mind, when our problems become more real than our God, when situations can easily distract us from the reality of God…We are DRUNK!Worries have the power to distract us from God’s promises. When we get used to be worried about everything, we are shifting our mind from God’s knowledge into the acknowledging of our problems. The Lord said, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge" (Hosea 4:6). Specifically, the knowledge about the very nature and character of God is missing in the middle of our worries. Galatians 5:6 says faith works by love. If we really knew the love of God in an intimate way, our faith would work. Peter summed it all up in 2 Pet. 1:3 by saying, "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue." If we're missing some "thing" that God has promised us, then we have a knowledge problem. Effects of worry-drunkenness One of the most visible effects of worry-drunkenness is that it can stop the revelation knowledge of the Word of God.
Our minds are actually the battleground. Our spirits are complete (Eph. 4:24, Col. 2:10), and our bodies will do what they are told, but our soulish parts (which include our intellect) have the responsibility to choose or exercise our free will. So in that sense, a person's soul is the master control over our whole person. For the born-again man, the spirit is the driving or life-giving force, but the soul has the last say-so because of the will. God will not violate our free will except in final judgment. Therefore, it is necessary that we get this "mind of Christ" (which we have received in our spiritual man) functioning in our soulish minds so we can make the right choices. This is done by studying the Word of God.When our mind is distracted because our worries and we stop focusing on God, we diminish the powerful effect of God’s Word; which is wisdom of God (Luke 11:49). But 2 Corinthians 3:6 shows us that the mere knowledge of God's Word is not enough. We must have spiritual understanding because God's Word is spirit and it is life (John 6:63).
When the knowledge of God's Word enters our soulish minds through hearing or studying it, our spirits bear witness with the truth and impart wisdom, which is the ability to apply knowledge. This then becomes revelation knowledge, not just facts about God (you could program a computer with that), but the knowledge of God which has been divinely quickened in us by God through our born-again spirits. Worries have the power to stop that natural flow of the Word in our minds because you are departing from it.
I read something in the web site of alcoholics-anonymous that says “To be sure of sobriety, alcoholics simply have to stay away from alcohol, regardless of the quantity, mixture, or concentration they may think they can control.”Then I thought; it’s exactly the same; the only way we can think well, been in balanced mind, take the best decisions is simply STAYING AWAY FROM WORRIES; regardless the magnitude and nature of the problem. In the same way that an alcoholic needs to understand that “I can control it” it’s not an excuse to have a drink. We also have to understand that it’s not an excuse to “I can handle it” it’s not and excuse …Leave it to God! YOU CAN’T CONTROL IT.
Can a person achieve sobriety all alone by reading THE BIBLE?
Of course the Word of God is such a wonderful weapon to stay sober against the worries. However, I know many people that can quote thousands of Bible verses in the mist of the adversity and still worrying. Why? Because our job is to stay focus, it’s our responsibility to think appropriately. Look this verse:
1 Corinthians 15:34 (The Message)Think straight. Awaken to the holiness of life. No more playing fast and loose with resurrection facts. Ignorance of God is a luxury you can't afford in times like these. Aren't you embarrassed that you've let this kind of thing go on as long as you have? WOW! Think straight! What about? Your problem? NO! Think about the power of Christ through the resurrection. In other words any kind of mind distraction is IGNORING GOD, and this is a luxury you can’t afford in this like this!
Sobriety — freedom from worry. I’m convinced that the devil uses worries as temptation because, he is really afraid that we discover who we really are in Jesus…He is really worried!
STOP DRINKING LIES MIXED UP WITH DECEPTION… DRINK LIFE! |

| Thank you for sharing! As I read it, it reminded me of a quote I learned a while back. It comes to me from time to time, but more often when I'm upset. Still, it can apply at all times: From God, "If people are getting to you, you are not getting to me." So true Jeni. If I let myself get distracted, which honestly happens more often than I wish, I immediately know I'm not as connected as I should be with God. |

Yes Gaby! Good point!
I also think it's a daily practice. I'm working so hard to put myself on a position that when trials and problems come the first thing that come out from my mouth is "i'm not going to get worried about it" |

| Amen. and if you look in that book of Peter, he says that several times about the "knowledge" of Jesus Christ. I noticed it last year all of the sudden, and really thought about it. Great word! |

| Feelings are the result of our choosing. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Our reaction to someone else's action is our choosing. Do we use the mind of Christ or do we take it upon ourself to judge others? Jesus told us to love one another: that is the choice that we should make. Too often we measure ourselves by the words and actions of others. We think we are more spiritual than others when we meet our own standards and others do not. It is easy to become phariseeical when we think we are something as a believer. The Bible warns us to take heed if we think we are standing otherwise we can fall. The devil is just waiting for us to walk onto the red carpet of self-pride so he can pull the carpet out from under our feet and watch us take a fall. He laughs hilariously every time a believer gives a bad testimony for God. I hate Satan! Beware of the wiles of the devil! He hates you and he's out to destroy you. He will do it subtly as an angel of light then he strikes as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Never think you've arrived as a believer. Fall on the grace and love of Jesus. Walk as close as you can. Seek Him with all of your heart. Talk to Him constantly and listen for His still, small voice. He only has your best interests in mind, even if your circumstances look impossible and unfair. God knows what is best. When you are tried and purified, you will come forth as gold. You are the diamond in the rough and He will smooth the rough edges. The clam is irritated by the sand and produces the pearl from the disturbance. What you view as horrible may actually be in your best interest. Trust, trust, trust. |

Your post is similar to some concepts for fasting. We can fast from anything. That "anything" should include the things that steal our time from God or from those whom we should love. As we come out of the fast, it becomes pretty clear just how often we've been getting drunk, filling up, on things that interfere with our relationship with Christ.

| Great Word! It's nice to see another perspective on drunkeness other than the intoxication from alcohol. I am working on another perspective about Peter getting out of the boat. No drunkeness for me! |

In answer to your question... "Can a person achieve sobriety all alone by reading THE BIBLE?" YES...the answer is Yes! God healed me overnight after 15 years of alcoholism and a bad night of suicidal thoughts. I cried out to God and begged that He heal me, and knowing you should never barter with God, and if He did I would commit my life to serving others and sharing of His saving Grace. DONE!! It was like God snapped His fingers and after 15 years of cravings it was gone. No more...just like that!! It's all about surrender, studying God's Word and a lifetime of serving Him. Man....HE'S AWESOME!! Thanks for the blog! You're incredible! |

I have been getting really drunk lately and enjoying the fruits of Joy from the freedoms of bondage! And for this old alchoholic and addict getting drunk is not a good idea, but when it is in the word of God I am safe in the Fathers arms.....
Bless you
