Ida is also given credit for being before Rosa Parks in her efforts to stand her ground.- and winning.  She had the audacity of being born during a time when the supreme court would not have supported her.  Instead she stood up and made her voice heard.

(Veronica, Steve is counting down.)

In fact, Gene, there were continual threats on Ida's life.  She had to leave the South for her safety.  And as you pointed out she got no support from government and little or no protection from law enforcement.

Wow, I would like to thank you for the wealth of history. Stories I did not know about, stories of some of the most heroic people I have ever heard of. Either I did not pay attention well in my years of school, or it was never taught. I graduated in 1990, and I know during my years in highschool we studied "Black History Month" every February, but I have learned more from you reading these articles, than I ever remember getting from school. Thank you again. - tammy

Tammy:  Unfortunately most of these people are not seen as heroes by our educational system or by our history books.  Many of my top Americans were involved in the great struggle for human rights for all in America.  I choose them by how strongly they stood for two basic American principles"  "all men are created equal" and "liberty and justice for all."  I am glad you have been encouraged by their stories.

When I was a freshman at Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina we viewed a documetary on the life of Ida B. Wells and how she would give an account of all of her experiences in writing.  She inspired me so that I have journaled and now blogged ever since that day.  When I think of a gift to give others, I all ways by journals and I place a small autograph in the front and recall the reason why I started journaling and why it is so important.  If it had not been for her writings many of my people's rich history would have been lost.  Thank you for helping to continue the spreading of her legacy.
