| How To Recognize A Fan |
| |
How do you recognize a fan? If a guy says he is a fan of the San Diego Chargers (every time someone asks him), but never watches a game, is he? If you try to start a conversation with him about the Chargers, but he acts uninterested, is he a fan? If you tell him that they are going to the playoffs with home field advantage through out, and he says very calmly, "Oh, uh, that's nice.", is he a fan? If you finally get him to watch a playoff game with you and he never smiles, moves, or cheers when the Chargers score and falls asleep a couple of times, is he a fan? If he begins to complain that those Chargers fans are disrespectful, irreverent, and fanatical, is he a fan?
47:1 Oh clap your hands, all you peoples; Shout unto God with the voice of triumph. If someone claims to be a Christian (a fan of Christ), but never goes to a game (church or fellowship), is she? If you try to start a conversation with her about Jesus, but she acts uninterested, is she a Christ fan? If you tell her that Jesus rose from the dead and is alive today, and she very calmly says, "Oh, uh, that's nice.", is she a fan of Jesus? If you finally get her to go to church and she just sits there board, yawning, and falling asleep, is she a fan? If she begins to complain that those Christians who get visibly excited about Jesus are disrespectful, irreverent, and fanatical, is she a fan of Christ?
Just about everybody would say that the above self-proclaimed Chargers fan is no real fan! Why do most people accept the second person's claim to be a Christian when she shows no more interest in Christ that the other guy does in San Diego? Almost anybody would say, "That guy is no real Chargers fan." Yet if someone dares to say, "That woman is no real Christian," people accuse that person of judging her?
Is there not an inconsistency here? If we accept everybody who says the words, "I am a Christian," as being one, regardless of how they act; shouldn't we accept everyone who makes any other claim about themselves regardless of how they act?
If I say, I am a model citizen of Nashville, TN, but I don't know anything about local politics, can't name a city council member, litter every chance I get, and spend most of my money outside the city, am I really a model citizen? Why not be real with yourself and honestly answer the question: "Am I a Christian, a real follower of Jesus Christ?" |

| Very good insight! The Christians need to know first why they are called to be christians and then they should know why they are called to be fans of Jesus. |
| Amen, Ragland. The world needs to see us being sincere and obedient fans of Jesus. |

| Micaiah: Amen! Fanatical means a highly committed fan. |
| The very "fans" of Jesus you have spoken of are the ones that were the least tolerant of me when I got born again...they found me hard to take. The outright self-proclaimed pagan-atheist/agnostics could stand me far more. |
| LOL I want ppl to think I am a Jesus freak fanatic! I want to be weird for the cause of the Gospel! |
| Me too, Lara. The Word says that we are fools for Christ! |
