Do you have a problem trying new foods? Are you willing to try a new food if a friend recommends it? My wife Serena and I grew up with 2 very different food cultures. Since she grew up in the Southwest, she leans towards Tex /Mex flavors. My food interests on the other hand, are all about the “southern taste and flair.” When its time to step out and try new flavors that are somewhat foreign to our taste buds, it’s as if War World III breaks out!
I love collard greens while she goes nuts over red beans, rice, and guacamole dip. And there is no way in the world you will get either of us to try one another’s food interests. Some people will even say, “Well you haven’t tried mine, it’s different… I make it so you like it” and when we don’t try it, the person who concocted the meal is left feeling hurt and confusion. Why? Because this is a person whom we love and know without a shadow of a doubt, can cook-- yet, we don’t trust in them enough to simply try what they’ve made.
The word, believe is interchangeable with the word, trust. I was sharing with a gentleman who was absolutely 1-step-away from hitting rock bottom. He said he believed in God. I then asked him, “Do you trust in Jesus?” His reply was “Fifty percent of the time”. My next question was, “How would you feel if your wife came to you one day and said, ‘Just so you know, I trust you 50% of the time’…wouldn’t you be crushed?”
When we say we have put our faith in Jesus Christ, it means we trust Him as our only means of salvation. To say we believe in God, yet not trust Him with our lives 100% makes it impossible to be pleasing to God.
Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths”. read chapter
