Chain Gang of Freedom or Bondage?
Chain Gang: A group of convicts chained together, for outdoor labor.
Bondage: The condition of a slave or serf; servitude.
Many of you started reading this post because the title caught your attention, and most people see the "chain gang" as something very negative, and depending on the way it is viewed one could conclude that it is negative!
When I view this definition, I have concluded that it is a definition that describes the Church and it's people, (A GROUP OF CONVICTS CHAINED TOGETHER, FOR OUTDOOR LABOR!) Many of you who know me, or have read my writing, already know were this is going, but I want you to keep reading so you can gain something afresh.
You and I are mere convicts of the Law of God, thus God searched for us by his policing Love, sending us his son, Jesus, to direct us to his bondage of peace. Although many of us ran for some time, and were hit with those bullets of revelation, we finally surrendered to the chains that would have eventually caught up with us anyway.
The judgment at that time that was placed upon us, was death (the second death) admitting to that judgment rendered us guilty, but by confessing our sins, we were pardoned and placed into the bondage of grace. The sentence was "the chain gang," a life of servitude to the master himself!
This is the best way to view this Chain gang! Mathew 18- 20- : And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and earth.
Go ye therefore , and teach all nations , baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

| True my brother because when Jesus removes the yoke from us he gives us a lighter yoke. If we are not serving one we are serving the other. When Jesus caught up to me I was surrounded and I had no choice but to come out with my hands up! I'm glad he slapped the cuffs on me. I'd rather be chained to Jesus than to drag around the long heavy chain the devil had on me. Shalom |

Alright now Evangelist Keith I hear you. I consider myself crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I but Christ who live within me, and the life that I now live, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Just like Paul said, "I, Paul, am a prisoner of Christ Jesus because of my preaching to you Gentiles. " Eph 3:1

Evangelist Keith and All:
I'm in total agreement! I have a question, though. We can all say that we want "more" but what are we really doing toward that end? In other words, how many of us leave Church on Sunday and really get out in the streets witnessing to the lost souls? 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.
Peace and Love,

Good Question Deb! I ask that all the time, I am committed to witnessing as I think you know. I do go every Saturday, and I share as I go along. It is the mind-set that the Christian must have in order to do it! Thanks for that question. |

You, of course, are on target as usual. I'm noticing in my new-found Christian walk that there are many people who "talk the talk" about witnessing to the homeless and the drug addicts hanging at the street corners. Oh, there's a lot of talk about the tragedy of poverty, those who are starving (both abroad and right here in our own neighborhoods!), and the increasing stats of AIDS among Black Men in particular. My, my, my... Now, let's stop talking and do something to help these people! That's when I find myself suddenly alone, talking to God, because all the "Church Folk" have split. Why are we, as servants of the Lord, so afraid to reach out and mingle with those less fortunate? Afraid of getting those nice designer clothes dirty, are we? While some are struggling with the costs of the dry cleaner's bill, people are dying . . . for attention, someone to listen to them, a helping hand, some Love. Is that not what Jesus gave?
Peace,
Deb |
