Making promises

When we say we are going to do something, we need to do it, but don't make a promise, because we don't know if we will be able to fulfil it, it would be better to just say yes or no.

Jas 4:13  Pay attention to this! You're saying, "Today or tomorrow we will go into some city, stay there a year, conduct business, and make money."
Jas 4:14  You don't know what will happen tomorrow. What is life? You are a mist that is seen for a moment and then disappears.
Jas 4:15  Instead, you should say, "If the Lord wants us to, we will live and carry out our plans."
Jas 4:16  However, you brag because you're arrogant. All such bragging is evil.
Jas 4:17  Whoever knows what is right but doesn't do it is sinning.

Jas 5:12 My friends, above all else, don't take an oath. You must not swear by heaven or by earth or by anything else. "Yes" or "No" is all you need to say. If you say anything more, you will be condemned.

This is a very important scripture, even Christ emphasized this Matt 5:34

Mat 5:34  But I tell you don't swear an oath at all. Don't swear an oath by heaven, which is God's throne,
Mat 5:35  or by the earth, which is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, which is the city of the great King.
Mat 5:36  And don't swear an oath by your head. After all, you cannot make one hair black or white.
Mat 5:37  Simply say yes or no. Anything more than that comes from the evil one.

We should never make a promise, because we may not be able to fulfill it, and the Lord takes promises very seriously.

Num 30:2  If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.

Deu 23:21  When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy God, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy God will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee.

This is a lesson I have just been through, and it hurt SO much!

I had made a pledge at fellowship to help a missions group. I was doing well in my business, and "I" thought with-in my self, that "I" could pledge a $1000.00 to help,

Well after this happened, business started slowing down, and needless to say when the time came do to fulfil "my" pledge, I was unable to preform what "I" had promised.

It was about a week or 2 after the time was due, one of my debts that I had been making payments for was 2 months late and they filed and collected a garnishment on my account.

Can you guess the amount they pulled from my account?

It was the amount "I" had pledged.

So when making a promise, be sure to consult with the Father, and NEVER make a promise and fail to fulfil it!!!!!!!!!!
