| Amazing Grace |
|
| |
Lest we forget the words to the original hymn I find worth reflecting on.
"Amazing Grace" Amazing grace, how sweet the sound That sav’d a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see. ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears reliev’d; How precious did that grace appear, The hour I first believ’d!
Thro’ many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; ’Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promis’d good to me, His word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be, As long as life endures.
Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease; I shall possess, within the veil, A life of joy and peace.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine; But God, who call’d me here below, Will be forever mine.
John Newton, Olney Hymns (London: W. Oliver, 1779)
I especially like the third stanza, but that changes from day to day.

Yep, classic hymn! Hmm, you have some verses I'm unfamiliar with. And what about When we’ve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise Than when we’d first begun. |

The hymn Amazing Grace is very special to me and I keep it close to my heart. |

| My Christian experience with worship songs has been primarily in churches that are evangelical and contemporary. Some that don't even have hymn books. I have a real appreciation for the old hymns and old tent-meeting songs from long ago. It's kind of frustrating that in today's church, you're hard pressed to find someone singing a hymn the original way it was written. Now they're arranged by contemporary Christian singers lots of times and with new verses. God bless. |
