| Thoughts on Humility (2 of 7) |

In review, the first action was to be conscious enough of the proper order of things and to be careful to submit ourselves to those above us. This, of course, includes submitting our hearts and lives to God. MAJOR action of humility. The second action I saw in 1 Peter 5:5-10 was, likewise based in humility. "...Clothe yourselves in humility toward one another..." If the first action was vertical, this one could best be described as horizontal. (It is one of the famous "one anothers" in Scripture.) A person might sit back after reading these two verses and say, "Hmmmm, it seems easier to understand why I would submit and be humble toward God and even the people older or more experienced than I, but I might have a hard time with some of those "one anothers" in my life." Maybe our fear is that we might begin to lose any "bits" of control in the relationship or somehow trade away our influence and status in the eyes of those who might be observing. The acknowledgement and repentance of this is a great first step toward getting things straight, getting things more Christ-like in our lives. We put clothes on, oftentimes, to impress others or create someone else's impression of us. "The clothes make the man" is a saying that we have heard for years. Only partly, true though. It should be quoted as "the clothes make the man...in the eyes of those who are observing the man." Clothe yourself with humility. More to come.
Life is good. |
