I'm Dead, So I can Live"

2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me: and that `life' which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, `the faith' which is in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.


My ponderings today go towards that whole crucified with Christ part. What does that mean exactly? 

Well, to me...I believe that it has to do with the whole dying to self part. We have to be rid of our old selves. That doesn't mean that we try to do some renovating or cleaning up. It doesn't mean that we can douse ourselves with perfume or cologne and think we are are all clean. No new clothing or self help courses to try and improve our old self will do, we will still have our old self. We need a New Self. 

When God enters into our lives...He takes care of that. He basically Kills the old self. He removes it. He took away the old life so that I could have a new life. I think that is what is meant by the Crucified with Christ part.  "Im dead, Yet, I'm alive!"

I have been set free from my old life. Sin no longer controls me! Satan no longer has any right to bother me! I am no longer who I was!

And praise God that I am not!

Amen Valarie! I think "set free" just about says it all. No longer are we (or need we be) controlled by human passions and desires....the Holy Spirit gives us new passions and desires, righteous ones!!! Good blog!

Thanks Mike..I sometimes have to remind myself that I am indeed, "free". It's hard at times to not think back on the old...but I have to remember that "she don't be no more"

Hey Valarie,

Just to lend support to what you are saying, I'd add Romans chapter 6.

That chapter reveals the supernatural thing that happened to us once we received the free gift from God. ~ But here was also my trouble:  I didn't believe it!  Though God says all things were changed... and that the old self (the old man), was crucified (v.6), I didn't believe it!

And with God... believing it, is the all important requirement to really having the thing.  Praise God.

Awesome! Thank you R! ...Now, I have to ask...what does R stand for? Because I have this thing about needing to know people's names. Just seems a bit more personal to me. :)

R stands for Robert. But if you ask my wife at times it means Really Robert?!

Hey Valarie,

According to other people, R is also for - that kinda pirate-sound. You are right. It has matched my attitude at times. But I also know how to baaaa and whaaa, but I get little credit for that.
