THIS IS SOOOOOO GREAT!!    Thank you so much, it has given me much insight today... insight that was needed.

You are a blessing... and you will never figure it out other than to give HIM all the glory!  LOL
In gratitude,

Thank you for this. I've had encounters reectly with someone who insists that they can know the full mind of God on every issue in every situation using scripture. I've always been taught that scripture is one guide (the Spirit is another) but that we can't fully understand in this world although we will in the next. Thank you for making me feel better for not understanding everything.

On of the most difficult verses for me, when it comes to understanding “why” certain things happened is James 1:2-4, because I don’t really like to be in pain… oh, but does anyone?  But like you are saying here; “Just because I don’t understand doesn’t mean God isn’t involved.” So even in my pain, God’s grace is sufficient!

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4 NIV

Thanks for your open and honest words.  One of my seminary professors back in 1992 told me something that always stuck to me.  He said, "The day you can explain God and His ways... He ceases to be God."  Wow... I may know His heart and love; but, God goes beyond me.  Juat ask yourself, "What was

I think it's supremely arrogant of man, (who is created by God, not vice-versa!) to think he's got the Creator and His ways figured out, or that we are capable of figuring them out!  (And yes, I can be as  guilty of this, too, wanting answers to things that are too deep for me!)  Some things about His ways we'll never understand this side of Heaven.

Faith in God says: "I don't care what it looks like, I know who You are and I trust You regardless of the circumstances.  There is great peace in resting in the assurance that He is loving and all His ways are love.

This is wonderful, so true.  As people we seem to stay in OUR mindset and we are simple sheep!
What a blessing, thanks!~

Cheryl,

I try to always keep Romans 12:1,2 before me so that I can remember that my mind has to be "renewed" constantly.  Otherwise, I begin trying to "figure things out" instead of just trusting Him to see me through!

Thanks...

Hey Dr. Wilson,

Can we understand enough of what God says, so that we can stay busy? If He says, “murder is not what I want (in any given situation),” then shouldn’t we being doing something against the murder that we know happens everyday in America (abortion is what I’m talking about - 4,000 children a day are murdered in America)?

Yet, at the abortion clinic (in Denver), only a handful of people will show up today, while I know their are hundreds of thousands of Christians throughout the Denver area, who know that God considers murder wrong?

Yes, your article makes me think and ask this question, do Christians need to understand God better when it comes to abortion, so that they will be moved into action? Is that what is needed; they need to understand God better? ~ Others even think this way, “abortion is God’s problem, I don’t understand why He doesn’t stop it?,” as to say... God is the cause of it.

Maybe He is depending on us to move against abortion, but we don‘t understand that?

God, I understand enough, but some Christians?, I don’t. ~ Thanks for your article.

I have been guilty of trying to reach out and see the limits of God. It just hurt my brain, it is like trying to determine the limits of love, there aren't any! Prayers to you in your time of need, may you gain the strength that God needs you to have and the wisdom to do with it as He commands. Faith is a beloved blanket that I keep close to me and share it with others : )

Great blog.  Really put things in perspective.  I definitely can say I trust in the Lord with all my heart and I know completely that He is involved in every second of my life.  But I never understood my disobedience until taking Isaiah 55:8,9 into account.  I always feel like I have to figure out what is going on before I act, or I need to know what the outcome will be before I take the next step.  How will this affect my family, is this what God wants, will I be successful with this, how will people see me, is this going to take too much time for the return (whether it benefit someone else or myself)?  I always weigh things instead of just trusting and working.  When I pull another verse into my thought on this subject---
3:23 Whatever your task, work heartily, as serving the Lord and not men, 3:24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you are serving the Lord Christ.

---it simply tells me exactly how I should live.  I don't need to know it all to work because God says we will never think the way He thinks.  And in turn I need to work for the Lord in everything I do beause it is Christ I am serving.  If we all would perform every daily task as though the Lord were right there with us (because He is) and He was the one receiving from our efforts, I bet we would all do things differently.  I know I am trying to remember this with everything I do.  Thanks for the gentle reminder.  You are an awesome shepherd!

Cheryl,

Thank you for the WOW!  This blog was birthed as a result of my dear Mom's death just a few days ago.  I was barely recovering from my Dad, Brother, and Brother in laws death (three main men in my life passed away in the last three years) when Mom passed away. The pain was profound and literally left me bewildered as I tried to "figure out" what God was up to.  Then it dawned on me... "God is Sovereign" and that kind of settled much of it for me.

I had to reach deep into my "theological caldron" just to find a simple truth, God loves me and my life is in His hands; so, I need not understand all things but just one... He loves me!

God bless,

Dr. W.

Words of wisdom indeed.

I fell over quite a few times when I stopped leaning on my own understanding. But through trust now he supports me with His victorious right hand! It's awesome!

Great post my friend and a very powerful lesson!

Love the blog, Dr Wilson! YOU are great at making the complex simple to understand! But not too complex, as you yourself admit! lol

BTW, I'm not too crazy about The Message, I like this better:

8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
       declares the LORD.

9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Hey Dr. Wilson,

First, my wife and I send our heartfelt prayers your way. It's not easy seeing people pass away, something we all share in common. Secondly, these comments remind me of this verse, "we have the mind of Christ (1 Cor.2:16)," but does that mean we comprehend everything at once?  No, but it might mean that when we need to know the answer, need to know the direction, He will make it available to us, if we are willing to pursue it. Some things can be known if we are willing to do the homework.

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find it; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened (Matt.7:7,8)."

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him (James 1:5)."

Blessings to you...
