| Goodbye Faithful Friends - 080314 |
|
| |

Well, after 14 years I must bid farewell to some faithful friends. That’s right after a mere 6 assignments, my boots are wearing out. The support stitching near the bridge of my right foot split and separated. But, actually I’m cool with that. You see, these boots were actually issued to me in 1994 when I was first assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) out of Ft. Campbell, KY.
From 5th Group, they accompanied me to Ethiopia, Djibouti, Jordan, Egypt, and Eritrea. Then, they were moth balled (put in storage) until the advent of the Army Combat Uniform or ACUs. Once I donned the ACU uniform, they accompanied me all over Ft. Lewis, Washington. Then, they deployed with me to Thailand and Japan. Finally, they accompanied me as I was reassigned to Ft. Bragg, NC. However, before they came to Afghanistan . . . I shelled out the money and had them re-soled.
So, they lasted me almost the entire tenure of my Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) – VIII rotation. In short, I think I got my money’s worth out of the footwear!
This morning, we all celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a run. The Army Material Command (AMC) folks sponsored the event and you would not believe the people that turned out! It was fun seeing the better part of Bagram’s population consolidating near the start point of the event.
Of course, following the completion of the run . . . everyone was given a snazzy T-Shirt. That makes the fourth run and T-Shirt I’ve acquired since arriving in Afghanistan. I’m so grateful considering some of the challenging medical aches and pains I’ve experienced here in theater (the area of operations).
Finally, by the time most of you read this web log (Blog) entry, I will be relocated (Saturday, 15 March 2008). You see, even in a combat zone, one can get evicted. Seriously, I need to vacate my quarters and make room for the new folks coming in. Not to fret however, as a good friend of mine from both Germany and Ft. Lewis, WA is putting me up for the last three weeks of my vacation at the beach (all beach – no ocean).

God’s Richest Blessings . . . and of course, thanks for your “calls for fire” (prayers) on behalf of America’s greatest resource – Her sons and daughters! |

Beautiful also are the boots on the feet of those who bear the Good News on the mountain and through the valleys. They served you well and deserve an honorable rest from their support mission.
Cool pics & post, bro Mikey.
After a mind-bending and hectic week or so, following finally getting internet connectivity reestablished at home, I hope to at long last get some personal pics finally loaded on my own site here. Here's hoping the contractor team of Larry, Moe and Curly stay out of our neighborhood and don't go around chopping anyone else's comms lines again. (Nyuk, nyuk!)
In the meantime, continuing to do great violence in the heavenlies for continued protection & provision for all of my brothers and sisters in harm's way, and will now include prayers for rapid and smooth break-in period for your new footwear.
May our lavishly gracious Lord continue to direct each footfall as you walk out in faithful obedience to the Commander of the Lord's Host.
Blessings upon you & the family, Chris & JoAnne

You're so funny, Mike. I envy your energy. If you could bottle some of that and sell it, you'd be a rich man! Stay safe, Brother, and Finish Strong! I'll see you this summer! blessings, Scott |
