| Parrot or parroting? |
|
| |
Ephesians 3:2-5 “ If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, whereby, when ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) Which the other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; Polly want a cracker? A question parrot owners ask the parrot, to get them to say what they want it to say. You see a parrot is an symmetrical bird, one who imitates the words or actions of another, without understanding. As I have noticed in the Christian community, there are a lot of Preachers that preach as if they are talking to parrots! I am not saying all preach like this, but there are many out there who have picked up this type of mentality.
They will come out and tell the congregation, “Say I got the victory!” or “Say I’m coming out my situation,” you could probably think of many other things they ask you to say, but are these things all bad? No, I’m not in any way saying that!
But what I am trying to convey is: If you are asked to say, “I got the victory!” Are you shown how to get the victory? And if you are asked to say, “I’m coming out of this situation!” Do you realize you are in a situation? And if so, “are you showing me how to get out my situation? I can tell a parrot to say, “Polly want a cracker!” He may say it at my command, but does Polly really want a cracker? I can tell a parrot to say, “Let me out this cage!”
But does he really want to come out the cage? Furthermore, are you being shown the way out? I believe many preachers want the people to come out of these situations, wanting them to change, but I also believe that many act like pet owners with parrots who only appeal to the nature of the birds!
We, the people of God are similar to these birds, except we have two natures living inside of us ( human and spiritual). If you appeal just to our natural instincts and emotions, we will be ingrained with a parrot like attitude: Knowing nothing but what is said to us, but if you appeal to our spiritual nature, new nature, we can learn and be like an un-caged bird with wings of spiritual maturity, able to experience the grace and freedom to know why I am saying or doing anything. Are you parroting or are you learning to soar?

Some days I soar.... some days I crash into trees because my vision is sort blurry. It is then that I must talk to God, when I realize that I can't do it alone.
The days that I soar are the days that I'm holding on to the wings of God! |

Again, you are so right! I've noticed during Worship there comes a point that Pastor could ask the congregation to say just about anything, and most would stand, hands waving, voices shouting his words to the Heavens! Sometimes I wonder if those who are much farther along in their walk with Christ than I am are actually praising some other "tune" as led by the Holy Spirit, and the timing makes it appear as if they are following along with Pastor.
I do think it's clever to periodically be told to, "Look at your neighbor and say,"Neighbor, ... ". That's a sure way to make sure you have the saints' attention (or at least a very good try).
As for me in my new walk with Christ, I am trying to keep my mind open to His Word, careful to avoid the tricks of sneaky Satan (and he has been battering me, especially since my Baptism last October!), and learn as much as I can. I don't need any crackers, thank you very much. These wings want to soar!
Peace,

| Turn to your neighbor and say, " Preach Evangelist preach!" I hear ya brother. To me it is when the preacher says just what the Lord has given him to say that I enjoy the message the most. We all know the common phrases, and I can wade through most of it, but what is God saying. |

Evangelist I simply love this. You know I do. We don't need no mo' fancy sayings, no mo' cute demonstrations, we simply need to be fed The Word of God. What's the problem with offering his people His Word straight with no chaser?

| Thank you all for your openness to this blog, it is meant to bring awareness to those who "Just Parrot" what is being said! Some preachers Do it just to get you to respond, But if they are not giving the people the meaning of whats behind it, it could damage people that don't read and study the bible, This does a great a dis- service! Awareness is the Key! |

| I just had a conversation with some young people about letting the reality of God's Word come to where they live and not be satisfied with saying the acceptable "Sunday School Answer". (If you know what I mean) Sometimes even in conversation, we can pick up "christianese" and not even realize the reality of that expression in our own lives. Living Word, we thank you that you would become the Word made flesh dwell within us. GLORY!!!!! (You can repeat that if it bears witness!:-) ) |
