41:51 Joseph called the name of the first-born Manas'seh, "For," he said, "God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father's house." You may not can control the deposits into your memory bank, but you can control the withdrawals! Life is guaranteed to give you some unpleasant experiences. And because your mind is such an awesome and powerful instrument, it will automatically store those experiences in your memory. For example, if you choose to do so, at this very moment you can conjure up the memory of the ten worst experiences of your life. You have the ability to re-live your painful memories in vivid detail, re-experiencing all the hurt, bitterness, and anxiety. (Ouch!) But why would anybody want to call to mind their most disturbing memories? What purpose does it serve to run sad memories through your head? It only causes needless pain! Yet millions of people torture themselves with painful memories every day! Silly isn't it! People use their minds to make themselves miserable and then try to feel better by using alcohol, drugs, self-destructive lifestyles, and other diversions! But wouldn't it be better if they didn't depress themselves in the first place? After all, everybody has pleasant memories as well as painful ones! And it is just as easy to remember something good as it is to remember something bad. It is a matter of free choice. You (and no one else) pick the memories you bring to your mind. Are you being good to yourself by remembering your joys, your loving relationships, and your triumphs? Or are your tormenting yourself by dredging up your failures, your rejections, and your disappointments? I like what Buck Rogers, a former vice president of IBM, said: "I have what I consider a selective memory. I pick and choose which memories I'll draw from my memory bank, and I have chosen those that make me feel good". How about you? Do you make yourself feel good by recalling pleasant memories? Or do you make yourself feel bad by thinking about depressing memories? The choice is yours! Why not think about and visualize a wonderful memory through out the day today and see how it makes you feel? Come on, at least try it for one day. OK? |

MEMORIES, GOD’S WORD ON WHAT DO I DO WITH BAD MEMORIES? Genesis 41:51 . . . Joseph named his older son Manasseh, for he said, “God has made me forget all my troubles and the family of my father.” Isaiah 54:4 . . . “Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. The shame of your youth and the sorrows of widowhood will be remembered no more.” Philippians 3:13 . . . No, dear friends, I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. God, who forgives, can also help us forget bad memories.

| Thanks for those verses, MaKelly. I decided to use the one from Genesis as the theme for this post. |

The Mind is a terrible thing to waste...Especially on negative thoughts... For as a man thinketh so is he...2Cor 10:5 Tells us we are to cast down imaginations ,and every high thing that exalt it's self against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ...Further more in Phillippians 4:8 it states : Finally, bretheren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of a good report; if there be any praise ,think on these things.
Our mind is the battlefield, and if satan can run havock on our minds with the negatives, than he has more than half way accomplished his goal...and that is to defeat us. So for us to counter act towards this defeat, we must constantly guard our minds, and must be consious of what we allow to entertain our thoughts, and we are not to allow our minds to be used as garbage cans...but disgard everything that do not line up with that verse that said Let this mind that is in Christ Jesus be also in you. (paraphrase) and Remember what Philippians 4:8 tells us to think on... "But as you said the chose is totally up to the individual...

| This is very good Steve! I used to dwell on past mistakes a lot. I have come to the point in my life now though, where I don't think about what is past so much, I try to concentrate on now. And like you said, pick the happy memories to think on, not the bad stuff. |

| Great thought, Steve. There's obviously more at stake when there are emotional traumas that people can't control the memory of. But for the majority sake, we tend to hold on to things of little worth and memories can be the same way. Preachergirl is right. Why waste our time on bad memories? |
