| "F" is Forgiveness |
|
| |
When I was in grade school occasionally I would get a big fat red "F." The teacher told me that "F" stood for failure. Failure: to fizzle, to flop, to flunk!
I was told that "F" is for Failure! But Jesus has taught me that "F" is for "Forgiveness!" Forgiveness means to grant a pardon. To cease to blame or feel resentment towards someone or something. We have to learn to forgive ourselves when we make mistakes. In some cases it is much easier to forgive others when they "mess up" but to forgive ourselves is much harder to do. There is enough pain, mental anguish, and trauma associated with failing without beating ourselves up with the "would haves," "should haves," and "could haves," and we compound that pain by not forgiving ourselves. My advice to you is to let it go! Don't be too hard on yourself, you are only human, everybody makes mistakes! That is why they put erasers on the tops of pencils! No one is perfect! The only perfect person ever lived is Jesus Christ and He who knew no sin became sin for us that we might have the righteousness of God in Him. Failure does not have to define you if you use the opportunity to grow and learn from your experience. We all have a choice on how we respond tofailure. When failure comes we can choose to get better or we can choose to become bitter. I think about the "woman who was caught in adultery" when Jesus asked her where are your accusers? Has anyone condemned you for what you have done? Jesus said to her, neither do I condemn you: go and sin no more. "
8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. If Jesus forgives you and doesn't hold your faults and failures against you then that settles it! Paul asks a question in Romans 8 "who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen?" The answer is that no one can. They may accuse or slander or insinuate, but no charge will stick. "Its God who justifies. Who is he that condemns? (we know that Satan is the accuser of the brethern) but Jesus is at the right hand of the Father making intercession for us. Satan is saying bad things about us but our advocate Jesus Christ the righteous has the ear of the righteous Judge and is constantly saying, "They are forgiven, they are clean, they are paid for, and they are covered in my righteousness." There have been several instances of failure in my life that I wished that I could have a "do over." I hated myself for failing and even though I asked God for forgivenss, I didn't forgive me and wound up putting myself in a self imposed exile and prision. One day as I was asking for forgiveness for what seemed the 1,000th time for the same old thing that happened years ago, the Lord brought this song back to my rememberance. What Sin by Morgan Cryar | | | What Sin? - Morgan Cryar (Love Over Gold) | It happened so long ago And I cried out for mercy back then. I plead the blood of Jesus Begged him to forgive my sin. But I still can't forget it It just won't go away. So I wept again, "Lord wash my sin," But this is all He'd say, Chorus: What sin, what sin? Well that's as far away as the east is from the west. What sin, what sin? It was gone the very minute you confessed Buried in the sea of forgetfulness. The heaviest thing you'll carry Is a load of guilt and shame. You were never meant to bear them So let them go in Jesus name. Our God is slow to anger Quick to forgive our sin So let Him put them under the blood Don't bring them up again. Cause He'll just say, Chorus Lord, please deliver me from my accusing memory. Nothing makes me weak this way, then when I hear you say, Chorus (c) 1995 Kata Dioko Music, ASCAP | To anyone bound by not being able to forgive yourself. Jesus has the final word on the matter! Where are your accusers? Who can lay a charge against you? The answer is no one and no body! If the Son shall make you free you shall be free indeed!
