| Thank you for putting this out there. Please be careful with the counseling. Check the resources and make sure they are Biblical-based Christian counseling centers. |
|

I agree with MT4God....secular counsellors tend to mess you up worse...trust me, I know. They play the blame game. The one who did that with me claimed to be "Christian" but had plenty of New age mixed in there. You mention freedom in Christ, and I think of that book by Neil T. Anderson called "Bondage Breaker." I have read it, and we also did in ministry school, the 7 steps to freedom in Christ with Anderson. Most ppl I know, whenever they would try to pick up that Bondage breaker book, there would be a war going on against it. that is how powerful it is. |

I had 7 years of secular counseling. They dug up mess and left me with it.
I had 30 session of a specific inner healing prayer ministry and got freedom EVERY time! And, it was free!
I was so excited with the results that I got trained in it. I go for more training next month and then hope to take advansed training as soon as I can. |

I, too, have had secular counseling with new age tendencies. And she really did a blame game with me. Usually it came back to me and it was my fault or my choice. As a young child, we don't feel that there's a choice. I've did a Beth Moore Bible study called "Breaking Free" that dealt with bondage issues. It really did help. Prayer and forgiveness (forgiveness of yourself and of the abuser) are both very powerful. I, too, have already said a prayer for you, Bellafiore. |

I know exactly what you mean by secular counselling. They get you to talk about your past, they stick you in a hole and bury you up to your neck in it and then keep you there!
My sister has been seeing a counsellor on and off for over 10 years now, and she's still whistling the same tune this year as she was 10 years ago. Not one time has she been able to break free from her bondage because of this. And what makes me even madder - is when people start quoting stuff like Exodus 20:5 relating to generational curses - when we ALL have a generational choice to make relating to Exodus 20:6. My sister only relates to Exodus 20:5. I've tried talking to her, but she refuses to budge from that mindset because its been rammed down her throat so often by these counsellors in the secular world that its almost unreal. The only way I can describe it is if you give it one more breath - then you're keeping it alive and and allowing it to grow one more day.
Sorry to have gone off on one, but it makes me see red when people are designed to help people, but they don't. Let's get down to the root cause, see it and kill it so it doesn't stand a cat in hells chance of coming back. And the first point of call is changing mindsets in people that have been allowed to grow and develop during these counselling sessions. |

| Gone roaming, Amen brother. Generational curses are real, but so is the blood of Jesus that Breaks every curse! You don't hear that in the secular world and sadly in the Christian world much. Jesus did not die on a cross and shed his precious blood for us to continue to wallow in curses and misery and commiserate with others in our pain. He dies to set the captives free! Glory, what love! We need to be washed in the Word of Truth, renewing our minds! |

There is so much here that is soooooo good. What a great resource Cheryl. Thank you for your time in pooling these together.
That said, I will add this in for good measure...
I hesitate to say this, but I had secular counseling and it was just what I needed. Maybe it was because I was well grounded in the Word, but their no-nonsense approach helped me deal with some tough issues that a spiritual leader just "believed" away. Some things we have to deal with today and cope with what is here and now, but keep believing God can send different alternatives at any time. I have said this before secular counseling is better than no counseling and if balanced with the Word it can really help troubled people. Christian Counseling (done by a trained professional) is always the best alternative. |

KitKat, maybe we should have phrased our words better. There are good counselors out there. Just because it is christian doesn't mean it is good and just because it is secular doesn't mean it's bad. Research it all out and decide what is best for you. Pray and seek the Lord as to the location you should go. He will guide you. Most of all...it must be balanced.

I just wanted to repeat that verse. It is important. Don't walk in the COUNSEL of the wicked. Wow, let's watch who we go to for advise or counsel in any issue of life. |

I was born in sin but then I was born again. Space here and time will not allow me to tell you all that the Lord has done for me. My life has been blessed. I'm a Viet Nam Veteran and I'm in my right mind...not only has God keep me, He delievered me from my sin, and I have a date with Him in eternity. |
