| Have you believed after following? |

During my devotion this morning, I came across a verse that gave me a thought, the verse comes from the book of John that causes me to ask this question: "Have you believed after following Christ? There is a big difference!"
John 2:11- This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested fourth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
I have read this passage over and over in my walk with the Lord, and as a matter a fact this is the book of the Bible I was told to read when I first became a Christian, and the book that I now recommend to all new converts to read, since it tells who Jesus is and the purpose of his coming. What intrigued me about this was that the disciples at that time were just following Jesus, just like many people in Churches today! They recognize who Jesus is, and they are intrigued that he has come to bring eternal life to those who believe, but many only go through the motions of following him without realizing he has to be relied upon in order to really understand who he is! To believe means to rely, depend, and trust! Sometime, as I look at the church body, I wonder, Have they experienced (JESUS IN HIS GLORY), or are they just going through the motions?
I was asked by a follower of Christ one time, "Why I always give an invitation to the same congregation?" I told the person, "You can never be sure even in a building full of professing Christians if the people are saved or just going through the motions," I also said, "The only person I know for sure is saved is me! They may have evidence of the new life, but you only know unless you ask!" So, I ask you now "Have you believed after following Christ?" |
