| What is the gift? |

2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
What is the gift mentioned in these verses? I say it is the Grace (unmerited favor) of God. |

It is his GRACE of a new day, protecting, comforting, healing, loving, forgiving, guiding, reviving each of us every day of our lives.....
GLORY TO GOD |

Loren, grammatically, the object pointed to by "that" (and that not of yourselves) and "it" (it is the gift of God) is "saved" (are ye saved), or salvation. Both grace and faith are subjects of prepositional phrases, and therefore can't be the object of the sentence. (I'm not an English teach, but this is grammar as I remember it.) That being said, we are told elsewhere that grace too is a gift from God. (And so is faith, for that matter!) So whichever one you want to consider a gift, it's all good!
Good stuff Loren! |
