Come to the Communion Table

Last night was probably the best Maundy Thursday sermon I've ever heard. I wish there were a wealth of pastors who could have heard it too. Because for the first time ever it was explained that Jesus is inviting you to the communion table. Not the pastor of the church. And we have been in many churches throughout our lives where you could not partake of communion unless ... as Rev. Bills said ... unless you were a member of that church ... unless you were baptized ... unless you were an adult ... and certainly not children! But no ... all that is untrue. It is not the pastor of 'said' church that is inviting you - it is Jesus himself inviting you - yes, you, your unworthy self - to share the table with Him as He did with His disciples.

What a concept! I think of the Arizona church, the Alaska church, the New Hampshire church we were apart of ... that would not allow a non church member to partake of the Lord's Supper. I so wish these pastors could hear Bill's sermon. They don't have the right to turn you away, because they are not inviting you to the table. JESUS is inviting you to sit with him. And we know that Jesus accepts everyone ... rich or poor ... straight or gay ... married or not ... children or adults ... His open arms welcome us all to His table.

I will not look at this sacrament the same again. Just imagine ... in place of your pastor standing breaking bread, it is really Jesus standing there asking you to 'Come. Eat.' How can we not say no?

Let the children come.... we adults need to learn from the innocence and faithfulness of our children.

2:17 And when Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.

If we make ourselves "perfect" before coming to Jesus, then we'll never come to Jesus. Jesus came to call us...the sinners.
