| Good Friday '08: My eyes are fixed! |
|
| |
141:8 But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death. Today, Good Friday, the day we remember the death of our Lord Jesus on our behalf, all eyes in the Church are easily fixed on our Savior. But as I remember, I pause and question whether they will truly remain fixed on him from this day forward. It is with deepest, sincerest gratitude and determination that I say yes, they will.
Recalling what our Lord said about the rich and the eye of a needle, I am especially determined to keep my eyes fixed on him.
But when troubles come and life gets difficult, they will remain fixed. When storms come, and life gets turbulent, hectic, scary, or even terrifying, they will remain fixed. When fear and oppression come, they will remain fixed. When sorrow or sickness come, grief or tragedy, they will remain fixed. In the face of anger and depression, anxiety or exhaustion, they will remain fixed. When darkness and silence come, and God is difficult to see or hear, they will remain fixed.
Last Sunday our pastor posed a great question that stuck with me. Are we seeking the face and heart of God, or the hand of God? That is, are we seeking to know and love him for who he is, or do we seek and love him for what he can give us? Am I looking for what he can still do for me, or simply adoring him for what he has already done???
Today I say with gratitude and determination, my eyes are firmly fixed on you, O Sovereign Lord. Given who you are and what you have done, it is the very very least I can do, my Lord.

My eyes are firmly fixed on you , Oh Lord. The things here are temporary and do not last. Yes, you stand with me and bring me through the most terrible times, but my eyes are fixed on who you are and what you have truly done for me. My eyes are fixed on my home with you when I stand and see your glorious face someday. My eyes are fixed on you.
Awesome Mike.... Love ya |

Seeking the heart of God is what leads to a total transformation in our lives. Too often we do (I know I do) seek Gods hand to deal with the surface issues while ignoring the message He may be trying to teach us from His heart.
Awesome thoughts Mike. |

Awesome post my friend. Would leave more of a comment if I had time, but I am sure you understand.

| amen Mike, I want to stay in a "thankful" frame of mind. Appreciating the Gift I already received, rather than what else I can get from the Lord. There is nothing left in this world that He can give me that can even be measured agaist His sacrafice. I pray that I can wake everyday with a heart and mind "Fixed" on Him |

| I WILL PRAISE YOU IN THIS STORM! |

| It is part of the commercial, the bunny, the eggs and sales and shopping. There should be a moment in each day that we take to remember Jesus and His works at the cross and His rising from the grave and now watching over each and every day. Easter is a day to remember each day of our lives as Salvation is each day and forever. Excellent point made MikenLaura. Thank You for sharing that very important fact. |

God rebuked Joyce Meyer about this. She said how God showed her at one time that she was seeking God's PRESENTS and not His PRESENCE. A few days ago, in prayer time, I was questioning God regarding prosperity and the teaching. The Lord simply told me "You just keep seeking me and I will take care of all your needs." Of course, we sometimes do need to go to Almighty God and ask for things, but He will take care of us without us asking for certain things. We are His children, and it is His good pleasure to bless us and care for us. |

| Seeking His presence and face is so much better than anything else. Praise God for who He is!!! |

A hearty amen to that Robin! Lara, no doubt God welcomes us to ask him for all our needs, but how often does that become the basis for our whole relationship w/God? So often when folks hit a rough patch in life, and God seems to be sending curse after curse, people turn their backs on a God who no longer provides for their needs or rewards them for all their hard work. This too is seeking God's hand rather than his heart, which is probably broken over the pain they are going through. Someone who's let their questions and doubts seize control of their heart has still taken their eyes off the Lord. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I deeply appreciate it! Thanks to you Doyle, Jeremy, Tammy, Scotty, Melissa, woman of laughter, and Loren for fixing your eyes on him with me! |

| Well said Mike. Thank you Jesus for all you have done for me! |

Beautiful post Mike. I like to meditate on the tradition that says Jesus fell three times as he carried his cross up the hill. I always wonder what gave him the courage to get up and keep going each time. He must have had his eyes fixed on the Lord. Happy Holy Week to you! |

Today of all days in the year, we ought to be focused on the heart and not the hands. For it was His hands that were pierced for us but His heart that allowed us hope.
Great blog, Mike, buddy! |

Looking unto Him the author and finisher of our faith. When Peter fell into the water it was when he took his eyes off the Lord. When Lot's wife was turned to salt, it was when she took her eyes off of her deliverence and looked back at where she came from. When David fell into adultery was when his gaze shifted to Bathsheeba's beauty. Yes, there is something about fixing our eyes/setting our heads as a flint. Paul said that he did not run his race aimlessly or train as one who beats the air and hits nothing. He was focused on Jesus. He said therefore I make it my aim that whether I am in the body or out to please the Lord. His aim his focus was on the Lord! When I survey the wonderous cross...demands my soul, my life, my all.
Hallelujiah what a Saviour! |

I also question myself also and ask do I love the LORD for what HE gives to me, do I seek the LORD for what he can still do for me. No HE is more to me than just a giver or/ doer I love HIM for all HE is (real love) and all that HE has done for all and me (HE saved us). I love HIM because HE first loved me, before I loved or knew of HIM and myself.
Thank you, Mike and Laura |
