oh the humility......

As I sit here at my desk today on Good Friday, my heart it so very tortured. You may think to yourself how glorious a day this is, because this is the anniversary of our Savior Jesus Christ being crucified for our sins that we may have ever lasting life.

While I know I should be exalting my King today, and honoring Him in everything I do, I sit here reflecting more on the physical, horrific, brutal and undeserving death itself. I know without this sacrafice I would be condemned to hell, and I am forever grateful, but my heart as I said before is very tormented.

Ever since my walk with the Lord has become closer, my appreciation is so much deeper making this Easter more meaningful to me. I cant even touch the cross around my neck without an overwhelming sense of guilt. It is almost as if the reality that I did not deserve this Gift from my Lord is hitting me with full intensity for the first time.

I had considered watching "The Passion of the Christ" tonight with my older girls tonight. I saw it in the theater when it first came out. They have not seen it. My oldest (16) felt this would be a good way to remind ourselves of the sacrifice that was made for us. I agreed. But now as I sit here pondering the death of Christ, I thought to myself , I do want my girls to appreciate what Jesus did, but do I want them so sad and broken on Easter? Will watching our Lords death open their eyes, or scar them? Will it scar me, to see the hearts of my girls broken right before my eyes?

As I prayed about this, the word "Broken" kept permeating my head. Maybe my heart is still dwelling on His death and how Christ's was broken for me? Maybe I am still so worried about my children becoming broken if they watch the movie , A big part of me is hoping my husband will watch it with us, and he will finally reach that point of brokenness? Whatever the reason, I realized one thing. Broken is good. We need to be broken to reach that level of purity, We need to "break" from the sin in our lives, Once our hearts are broken for Christ we can love Him more fully. I am learning to embrace my own brokenness.

What can wash away my sin?Nothing..... but the blood of Jesus.

Tammy, I would WHOLEHEARTEDLY endorse watching Passion... with your husband. He may not get the spiritual concepts alone, but with you he might see your love for the Person of Jesus, the intense gratitude for what the Man did for you. I would not however, allow my children (ages 12, 10, 8) to see the movie though. Their young minds would not grasp the abstract concepts of grace, atonement, forgiveness, propitiation, etc. in the Savior's gory death. All they would see are the disturbing images. They might also get stuck on the weird guy with the black robe.

GREAT blog Tammy, I love to read a blog written from the heart, as this one clearly was!!

Thanks Mike, I think your right, I might let only my oldest(16) see it right now. I am really going to persuade my husband to watch it with me.

When we are BROKEN, it is then that we realize we can't live without Christ. He was broken, so that we can be made WHOLE AGAIN!
